Cool Haters gonna hate

First of all i would just like to say that i am not here to argue with anyone, especially the ignorant who just want to cause a commotion and refuse to open their eyes to see opportunities that pass by...........

Hi there
for anyone that is interested in Hero Aviation, I am currently a student undertaking the Zero to FrozenATPL course at Hero Aviation

In my honest unbiased opinion of the school,
i think that if you are a mature independent student who knows how to study correctly and wishes to obtain an ATPL at the minimum costs then you should seriously take this school into consideration,

Yes the school is not as big as Oxford aviation or CTC wings or the likes of such as schools who charge 100k to obtain a ATPL where they spoon feed you everything....... (because most students would be rich and young so they would need to pay for alot of guidance during the course).......but if your serious about aviation have a good mind and understanding of what is required in an ATPL and want to spend 32k euros then this is a good school

For everyone who is wondering why the cost of the course is so cheap, it is quite simple,
The cost of living in Greece is low compared to other places like the U.K......hence all accommodation during the training is provided...which i think is excellent for many reasons

The Greek civilian aviation authority examination fees are also cheap
14 JAA ATPL exams in U.K = £980
14 JAA ATPL exam in Greece = 70euros (this is the price for every school in Greece set by the authorities)

All other fees i.e landing takeoff parking are surprisingly so low they are negligible

And also the majority of other school all around the world rip you off and this business thrives in young individuals paying excess amounts of money to schools to become airline pilots and they make alot of profit, so when you see schools who charge so little.....just for a second think 30-40thousand euros isnt nothing.........but compared to rip offs like 60thousand it sounds like a bargain but in a matter of fact......the other schools are just ripping you off......so its upto you, if you want to be ripped off or not.....i certainly didn't and i dont regret it

But i must emphasis that for anyone who is going to spend 30-40thousand (or even 60 or even 100thousand euros) that you must know what your getting yourself into before hand, it is not a walk in the park, if you are mentally prepared and ready and dont need anyone behind your back telling you what to do and when to do it and how to do it, and you are a grown up and can think for yourself then school like this are perfect for you if you dont have 100k to spare.

I hope you all have a wonderful career in aviation

As Malta has proven last week, the Euro crisis is far from over in these corners of the continent. Beware, beware, beware!

ho ho ho

What is your name "frank"?
And what has happened to "captain dimos"
Very protective of hero right?
And you refer to uk? hmmm
Stronger smell of fish!
Ventum Air lives on through hero!
P.S I think it will be very long time before hero can begin to even think to challenge schools like oxford or wings. Remember the cheaper the school the cheaper the tuition.

hmmmm

By the way, looking through your post "frank", some of what you say don't quite make sense. I do not mean to be rude but you use words out of context such as the word "hence" and I have noticed, most words you use, are of previous poster of this forum (on hero aviation) page 1.
But we can tell you put a lot of thought in your post.

HEROES? a joke!

Frank is obviously Captain Dimos who is the founder of Hero Aviation.

Beware this school. They not professional whatsoever as you must have figured out by now.

If you heard rumours of this school. Believe it!

They specialise in gossip rather than aviation.

Your success here is dependant on how much they like you. In other words even a brain-dead person can obtain a licence here whilst a pilot with abilities may not.

THINK ABOUT IT!

Strange school

I think by now most of us have figured out what is going on with HERO school! It is rather sad that they have to play double roles to attract students not to mention how they put other flight schools & their students down to promote their own. Pitiful actually. Does anybody know if they are even legal?
I agree, it should definitely be investigated!

Good school for expensive visas but cheap poor tuition school!

Be careful! look at the reviews you have been warned! Hope you do not regret starting at this rubbish school if it is still running and robbing people! But if you are wanting a visa then this school is good for you like other foreign students who wants to stay in greece but it comes at a high cost so be prepared! Ask other international students who I believe are happy with their long visas!

been there

Because the continuous bad weather in my country I decided to look for an opportunity to get my PPL-practice training in a country with reliable good weather to make the most for my licence needed practice hours within a couple of weeks, flying every day. Searching the internet for a European school that could offer me that everyday training I found the Hero aviation school in Kalamata, Greece. Also I found this forum with the thread about this school. I decided to look for myself to make up my mind, based on my own observations. After an e-mail exchange (always quick replies) with HERO, in which I could ask already many questions, and with all the negative messages in this thread in mind, I took a flight to Kalamata on June 24. I got a warm welcome, good quality accomodation, met the director, the executive P.A & P.R manager, many students and instructors, looked around in the school building, visited the student appartments (above the school), attended part of a theory lesson and had a great instruction flight with the head-instructor, mister Glynis (the man with the '5 bars' on his shoulder: actually he has 4, the fifth 'bar' is the name of the school), from the Mègara airfield near Athens (where from Monday to Friday most instruction flights take place). I could ask any question to any person and got all the answers I wanted without restrictions or fear. All the persons I met were real existing, hard working and studying people who always tried to find some time to meet me and talk with me. Of course my aim was limited: find out about the practice training for PPL-A. I am doing my theory exams in my own country, and most probably will get my licence here. Now back in my country with memories of a great week in Kalamata I must start the 'fight' with the authorities to split my training for the licence in a part here (the exams) and a part in Greece (flying!). In both countries there are problems about this construction, but my experience with Hero gives me a strong motivation to continue this path. No, I am not payed by HERO to write this positive evaluation, I am just honest about what I have seen and heard. So when you want to know about the school: ask them your questions and go and look for yourself if you can.

aha!

Hello Roeloph. Nice to see you enjoyed your "trip to greece". Also nice to see how much you learnt in that short trip. (You even educated us to the stripes of the instructor!) Oh yes we all believe you are a "genuine student from Holland". No doubting that at all. Especially considering you have that only one post especially dedicated to Hero. I am sure you will get many questions from unsuspecting students who believe you exist and which you will answer "without restrictions or fear" in favour of your school. Nobody dispute that you are "not PAID (not payed) by HERO to write this REVIEW (not evaluation!) and we sure believe you are "honest" as you claim. Well done! But sadly too many reviews on this school and too many students studying there are talking and want their money back because they are not happy. So no Hero school, we base decisions on past experiences of students NOT the current ones FORCED into writing good about you and asking people to come visit your school? Well of course you will be nice BEFORE you take students money. Any muppet will be! The question is how nice are you when students have problems? Besides, wasn't this very school in trouble not so long ago with HCCA with the way students were acquiring licences? In fact I hear there are a couple of their very "hard working students" complaining they have been robbed! What you say to that?

ahoi!

Hey Starz! Roeloph is my real name, I really live in Holland, I really am not a student, instructor or director of Hero, I really am a member of a Dutch aviation club, I really paid the trip myself, I really was in Kalamata for one week and I really can produce all the evidence for these facts immediately. So that's all 'Starz', I am not interested in any fight with you on this forum. I wish you much luck and happiness in your life, and if you fly: many happy landings.

Whatever you say "Roeloph". But out of interest, what proof do you have? Not that I do not believe you. Just wondering.

GREECE FLIGHT SCHOOLS

Well, you know a school when you hear them talk with such spite about past students!

I won't let my son or especially daughter to go to a place like Hero if they will be spoken of so degradingly as Hero Academy describes some of the students!

Is Hero actually lisensed? Sounds like a bunch of hating individuals who owns an aircraft and probably operating a school illegally???

Any how I need a school for my child in greece we've moving end of september.

Does anybody know much about the new Olympus Academy? http://www.olympusacademy.gr/ obviously no way as cheap as Hero but looks promising.

Thumbs down

AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT AL COST! Dont say that you have not be warned.
Whoever comes here and pretend that the school is good is either working for HERO or got paid. They let their modular students start their ATPL groundschool without obtaining their PPL first. This goes against the rules laid out in PART FCL. which clearly states to obtain PPL before you can officially start with the ATPL groundschool. They dont have airplanes so they tell you to do the theoretical stuff first. HAPPY waiting for your day to start actual flying!! Plus for every flying lesson you need to drive 3 hours each way to megara airport!!! Good luck waisting your time on the road! If you will get a chance to fly out of Kalamata airport you ll need a so called approval and this can take a VERY long time so there you are again waisting time and waiting. They also use this to delay your actual flying because again no aircraft availability! Kalamata airport is ONLY available in the weekends for civilians use.
Instructors are very low experienced and so afraid of the management. Again i dont blame them as they need to build up their hours.

Do you want to go for a cheap course then go ahead!! You are warned by several folks here on the forum.

UPDATE -

Hero's website has been revamped totally. They've taken the approach of highlighting potential tricks other FTOs use to trick students.

They now incorporate a 'pay as you go' payment scheme and actually give lots of advice on how to spot a shady FTO.

They make numerous references to being EASA/JAA certified also.

This leads to me two conclusions, either they've totally cleaned up their act and adopted new principles or it's an even bigger sham.

Any thoughts?
