Accommodation in Bournemouth for Flight Training
Just about to start my CPL/ME/IR conversion at Bournemouth Hurn airport and have done a search on accommodations in the nearby area. There seems to be some threads in the ATC forum section on it, but none on the pilot's side..?
For any students flying out of Hurn - BCFT or PAT etc, (past or present!) could you give me your valued opinion on B&B's or best places to stay in Bournemouth?
Seems like a minefield of guest houses! Any help much appreciated!

Hi there, speak with the school your going to, they will have a selection of nearby places to stay, if its BCFT speak with Dena who has a list of places from around £70pw
I was the course pikey staying on a caravan site right at the end of runway 26, again cost £70pw...not for everyone but did me fine, quiet and cheap and didnt have to battle through traffic every morning..

I'm at PAT and stay in Winton, a few miles from the airport! I went to Cabair for Groundschool and used there accomodation list to get the place i'm in just now.
A few people I know used websites to find a room etc; most people rent a B&B for a week while scouting for more permanent accomodation.

I initially rented a room on the list supplied by BCFT. After a month or so i rented a flat with another person on the course. With the fact you dont have to pay council tax because you're a student then it doesnt turn out being too expensive.

Hi James, can I suggest you send them a private message, just in case they dont read these forums regularly, a classmate of mine stayed there and nothing but praise for the place, nice surroundings as they say and within stumbling distance of the infamous Curlew! and its the nearest place walking distance to the ground school providers, near enough to walk but a bike would be handy.

Hey. Cheers for the advice. This whole ATPL thing is a little daunting. I spoke to BCFT at Bournemouth today and sounded extrmely good and professional, they answered all my questions with ease. And said the best thing I could do is visit them and see if i like the environment there. So would you recomend them?

James - when I stayed in B'mouth I stayed with three NATS guys on atc courses - great bunch of guys and not far from the airport (Wallisdown - 10 mins by car) look for around 70-80 quid a week, the ATC forum might be a better place to look.
BCFT... well I had friends on the first ATPL course and lets say it was a shaky start - I hear good things about it though, Cabair GS is a different league to the flying side and definately worth checking out - top bunch of guys there..

The group creator was a course buddy and drinking partner, and if he had his way lover to!Joking DJ..
James, your only down the road so well worth a visit to BCFT, for me it worked out well, I did not pick the school for any particular reason other than they had the next course available out of all residential ground school providers in the UK. I also did some hour building there and night rating there and all in cant complain, it is what you make of it, and I enjoyed my time in Bournemouth, worth having a read through this thread below.

I'm booked on a course at Bournemouth from April 4th onwards for 6 months. Any recommendation for accomodation? I'm slowly trawling through the list given out by BCFT and checking spareroom daily, but a recommendation would be ideal.

I'm not really looking to spend more than £400 per month, although from what I've seen so far, I may not have much choice.
What kind of "equipment" do you get in your hotel? Is it a guest house or B&B type thing, I can't imagine your staying in the Hilton for £105.
It's clearly a weight up between more expensive accomodation near the airport with zero commuting costs, or less on rent and more on petrol.

Finding accomodation is no problem as long as you do it in advance. Bristol GS has a list of recommended places to stay on their site.

As far as transportation, to get to Bristol, you can take a plane. Then take a taxi from the airport to Cheddar.
From Cheddar to Gatwick, there is the Bus, Train, or you can hire a car and drive.
Lots of foreigners in my class, Norway, Sweden, France, Italy, Russia, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Morocco, and more. It wasn“t too difficult for them doing the Bristol route, figuring out accomodation and transportation. BGS also has their own forum for support and you can arrange transport with other students. I personally recommend it.

In my experience you are probably wasting your time with the accommodation lists. Most of the schools never seemed to keep them up to date and it was pretty low on their priority list. Many of the places I called hadn't offered spaces in years or the phone number was wrong etc.
Your best bet would be to:-
- speak to the school and see if any B&B/accommodation owner has been in recently showing their "wares". If so get the details.
- go down in person to the school and check the noticeboard and speak to the students to see if there are any rooms coming free.
- if you want to stay in a B&B then prepare a list of your requirements (desk, lamp, half/full board,wireless, arrangements for leaving stuff if your away on weekends etc) and email a whole bunch and see who bites. Then follow up and negotiate on price. There are gazillions of the things down there in BOH.
- the local college accommodation officer might have something although it may not necessarily be the most conducive to study.

I stayed at a place in Southbourne although it was back in 2004 so anything could have changed since then! It was OK, just a normal B&B. Plenty of parking nearby and I can't remember exactly how long it took to get to the airport but it wasn't a long drive.

I'm doing the MCC with European in Bournemouth April 26th - May 6th. Got the accommodation list and emailed a couple of them but didn't receive any reply unfortunately.
Anyone have tips on a good place for two weeks? Meals preferred and relatively close .. I don't live in the UK so I don't a have car. Probably will need to use a taxi then
