Pre-ATPL Study Skills Courses

I am due to start an integrated ATPL course in November but have been out of education since 2001. I was wondering if anyone knew of any "Study Skills" courses which would help prepare me for the course and the huge amount on info I'm going to need to take on board!

Therefore, I'm looking for a pretty general guide to studying (learning tips / organisation etc.) rather than anything aviation specific.

Thanks all and apologies if this subject has been covered elsewhere but couldn't find anything in my search.

I hear that Maths and Physics GCSE revision guides might give you some support. As for the aviation related stuff ... maybe somebody else can comment? I've been having a browse through this JAR Professional Pilot Studies by Phil Croucher.

Good luck.

I presume you don't mean GCSE maths and physics. Most of the good bookshops do stuff on study skills. I think you can find it in the section to do with business / cv/ interview skills. There are quite a few books that give you tips on how to study, how to revise, how to commit things to memory etc... So sorry but can't remember any titles of the top of my head. Also I think either OAA or Cabair do a sort of pre-course for pilots - check their websites. I'm sure someone out there knows of this.

Hope that helps

Well ... GCSE as in the same disc OAA media sell as seen here.

Contents Include:

General Number Work
Fractions, Percentages, Decimals
Ratio and Proportion
Use of Symbols
Equations
Formulae
Sequences
Using Graphs
Diagrams and Charts
Averages
Probability
Angles
Perimeter, Area, Volume
Circles
Triangles
Other Shapes
Transformations
Inequalities
Simultaneous Equations
Quadratic Equations
Algebraic Fractions
Non-Linear Graphs
Tangents and Areas
Cumulative Frequency
Histograms
Sampling
Standard Deviation
Trigonometry
Vectors

I've not sat any ATPL GS exams yet but I'm told they don't go much deeper than the above. So if you can carry out Trigonometry and Vectors like falling out of bed then I guess it's a head start. Trying to get to grips with a scientific calculator half way through your ATPL course is probably leaving it too late

Thanks for your help everyone. I've got the maths and physics cd-roms, so all good on that front.

I was wondering if anyone had attended any courses which help you to organise study, commit everything to memory etc. I'll have a look on Amazon etc and see what books I can find there.

Cheers.
