Gday guys, just a quick question.

Does an LPC come before or after doing your required line sectors with a company. Just a little confused in which is the correct order to be done.

LPC or licence proficiency check is the renewal of your type rating and multi-pilot instrument rating and therefore is an entry in your licence book, think of it as equivalent to your MEP renewal and MEP single pilot IR renewal. It is a 'proficiency check' governed by the CAA and conducted by a CAA authorised TRE. It is due 12 months after your LST (or more accurately by the end of the month 12 months following your LST - JAR OPS allows the operator to extend this validity to the end of the month). I think that most operators make the LPC co-incidental with an OPC (the twice yearly Operators Proficiency Check - a check run solely by the operator although the CAA do review the content of these checks).

Your Line Check is conducted after the qualifying number of sectors and is therefore conducted at that point. When signed off on the line you can then fly with Captains other than Training Captains. Line checks are then conducted annually.

Aaaaargh!! Its awful, I tell you!

Mind you, the bits between checks are fine....and on good checks you learn plenty, along with the benefits of refreshing your knowledge base with all the prep you do before them. You learn most from yourself and your self-imposed standards, aided and abetted by a good examiner/trainer.
