Flying in Iceland
Anybody done any flying in Iceland?
Off on holiday there, so I'd be interested to know where to rent from. Wouldn't be averse to a bit of gliding if anybody knows anything about the few clubs there. 7700 |
There is a flying school at Reykjavik which was advertising for rental the last time I was there.
Great thing is that Iceland is part of the JAA so if you have a JAA licence no conversion or validation or new medical required. Regards, DFC |
Bring money.. lots of it as Iceland is expensive.
There are some reasonable bed and breakfast places around, the best we found was in Keflavik even has high speed internet....can't remember the name but the building is green...easy to find as the town is small. Chuck |
The Flight School at Reykjavik is very friendly. Plenty of reasonably equipped 172s and similar available for hire at rates not dissimilar to the UK.
Weather is your biggest risk at any time of year. When the clouds and fog decide to settle, they can stay for days on end, wrecking the best of plans. Airspace is pretty straightforward as is ATC, with only the odd US-style oddity to get used to (1200 instead of 7000 for example) Enjoy yourself. 2D |
I did a bit of flying there many moons ago, even wrote it up for "Pilot" - send me a pm if you'd like a copy of the article.
March it was, and rather cool! The rate was cheaper than the UK. The beer wasn't! Russell |
