UK import of aeroplane, arriving by ship

Import is easy if the machine flies into the UK, but not so simple if it arrives in a container.

Anyone done this? Would be helpful to hear any hints/tips/tricks.

Thanks, Sam.

I did some serious investigation into doing this a while ago and came to the conclusion that trying to do it without hiring an import agent would be fraught with many time consuming issues.
You need an agent that is familar with the particular docks that the aircraft is coming into plus if you can find one that understands the complexity of aircraft importation that too would be a bonus. I think you will really struggle to get it through the docks and the docking union procedures etc without one..

'Popular Flying' magazine had an article on this back in the late '80s. Guy called Ian Callier who'd done it several times.

Thank you for those pointers. It's for a temporary import which 'should' make things a little simpler. Will contact Andy...

Thanks, Sam.
