Fly in to Duxford Airshow September 10 & 11 2016

After a gap of a couple of years, pilots are this year again welcome to fly into the IWM Duxford airshows.

In the intervening years, IWM introduced all admission by pre-paid tickets and this has had a knock on effect, due to pilots' concerns about possible poor weather on their route on the days of the show, leading to reduced bookings from the pilot community. In addition, the pre-pay system introduced for flying-in to the May airshow was rather complex to use. IWM promised to look at these issues during the year and have made some changes for the September airshow.

If you would like to fly into the September show, please follow the following procedure:

Please read AIC Yellow 025/2016 and print it out for your flight. Decide from the information and diagram which arrival/departure gate you will use.

Phone Duxford Tower +44 1223 833376 or email [email protected] and ask to book a slot. You will be asked for aircraft and flight details and also for the gate you plan to use. You will be given a slot number and time (BST not Z). You will also be given help on how to book and pay for the airshow rickets.

The airshow landing fee for aircraft up to 2730Kg is £30; above 2730Kg it is £50, both when paid for in advance. Pilots can also pay on arrival on the day for £20 extra - this will help IWM mitigate its losses if the weather turns out to be poor, without committing pilots to fly in possibly bad weather.

The theme of this September airshow is "Meet the Fighters." More detail and updates are provided on the IWM website:

Airshow Slot bookings are now open.

Alan.

Having lost £130 last month when early morning bad weather prevented me flying in, I will not be taking advantage of this amazing offer again.

Me too - was due to fly in for Flying Legends but weather stopped me departing my home base - cloud at 800ft all day. We made the call the evening before and luckily hadn't bought tickets otherwise we would have lost a lot more. Nice idea to fly in but in reality, the fact that you have to prepay for tickets will stop me in future.

So the reason given for keeping your money whether you make it or not is to "mitigate their losses". Ah well, that's ok then.
