Thanks to Scottish Information

Especially for Mr Fishbangwallop, please see the attached note lifted from the Cairngorm Gliding Club Facebook page referring to Thursday 5th June - a windy day but good for wave!

28534 ft AMSL, east of the Cairngorms, north of the Dee.
CGC's new height record has been set. Nick Norman and Moritz Korn took off in the ASH 25 and got a bit more vertical distance on their way back from the Aboyne area.

Many thanks to Scottish Information, great service, got clearance to FL 300 (with transponder of course).

astir 8,

What a fantastic flight. Do you know what the height gain was?

We routinely get to those heights in the wave in SW Alberta, but our low points are typically around 6000' (2000' AGL).

The airfield at Feshiebridge is approximately 850' AMSL and aerotows normally 2000' QFE but I don't know exactly what the guys took. It was a rough tow so they probably didn't hang on for too long!

So height gain would have been around 25000'

There are some great photos of the flight taken by Moritz on the Cairngorm Gliding Club Facebook page

From the ladder, height gain was 25,427 ft.

What I find more amazing is his time travel to achieve it.

Great effort, off to look at the pics.

It was me, The Fat Controller, for the flight between your initial call on 124.5 and transfer to 126.925 when you spoke to 2 other colleagues, not sure if they have PPRuNe IDs or not.

You really got lucky with your timing, it is not everyday that area is so clear of traffic, but having a good radio and Mode S made it easy from an ATC point of view.

It wasn't me that did the flight, unfortunately!

The highest I ever got was 21500' and that was over ten years ago.
