I would HIGHLY recommend renting a DA20 instead.
Much better plane and..they're faster then a C172.
Cover more distance and more stuff to see.

DA20 is OK, as long as you don't want to take much stuff with you. For a long term cross country, camping out of the airplane, the C172 is fantastic, and the DA20 not an option.

I thought that with the advent of cost sharing, hour building (hour wasting) was dead. It may not be approved by many, but its legal. Let someone else pay whilst you still can.
