Ireland
Will be heading over to Ireland at the end of the month for my Dads anniversary, he was a former Aer Lingus employee who was killed on duty.
Am a pilot over here in Canada and would like to be able to take the opportunity to fly in Ireland. If anyone can assist without all the hassles of club checkouts, European medicals it would be much appreciated.

hi,
what licence do you have? If it's not an EASA licence, you won't be able to hire EASA reg aircraft and I don't think there's any other for hire. Also you shouldn't be looking at club checkouts as a hassle, it's for your own safety and we don't enjoy scraping lads of the mountains.
lastly - the long term wx models paint a very grim picture, it will be very windy till mid December so (which is what you'd expect around this time of year)... Anyway you might contact Newcastle Airfield in Wicklow, if there's anyone who can help you, it's them.. they had a N reg PA32, but I think it's gone now

He can fly anything immediately if there is another 'legal' pilot in the cockpit - perhaps this is the easiest solution (also removes all the stress, having someone with some local knowledge).
Just an idea...

Have you considered just hiring an aeroplane with instructor and just logging it as dual.
Your Transport Canada licence and medical are good next door in Britain as a PPL, but just like anywhere else in the world, nobody will rent you an aeroplane without a checkout.

Genghis suggestion is the easiest
Have done this many times in other parts of the world when I just want to fly for fun - you do all the flying and the local instructor takes care of all the hassle
Have sent you PM

There are some N-regs for hire in EASA-land, so IF your license is FAA-compatible you could stand a chance. Otherwise, as per GtE (though I am unclear as to the meaning of "good next door", my Oxford dictionary brings no enlightenment )

FAA in EASA land
In Europe, you can fly G-REG on your FAA license until April 7 2016. It's worth asking whether Irish registry planes can be flown on your license. If not, there might be both G- & N-Regs which you could rent. I can put you in touch with instructors if you'd like.

Thanks for all the help guys. Hold both Transport Canada and FAA licence with Instructor rating and previously held a PPL in the UK but Medical for that long since expired. Not sure who suggested strong winds for a complete month but thats neither here nor there with the way the weather changes, even in Ireland. Would certainly consider the dual option as it will be the easiest with the time I have and whoever suggested the "scraping off mountains" comment not really what I was looking for in regards to avoiding checkouts.

Hi,
I know a former aer lingus pilot with a modern two seater near Dublin. I ll ask him if you like. Can't be many people who lost their dad to duty working with aer lingus. Sad indeed.

If you happen to be up north on your Irish trip the Ulster Flying club in Newtownards (near to Belfast)would be worth a visit.
Nice Cessna 172SPs and plenty of runaways to cope with the wind and beautiful scenery.
