Aerobatics around North Yorks?

Hi Folks,

I've just moved back to the glorious UK after many years overseas and I'm getting started on the long road converting my commercial licence. To let my hair down after a long day of study I'm looking for an aero club with an aerobatic aircraft for hire somewhere near(ish) North Yorkshire. I'm in Skipton, which is equidistant between Sherburn and Barton (1:15 drive each). So far, via tinternet, I've found a R2160 at Sherburn, which is OK for aeros (I have a fair amount of time on it's NZ cousin), but I'm looking for something a little more capable, preferably with a wheel at the correct end of the aircraft.

Would any locals know of anything appropriate?

Cheers,

Gareth

Gareth,

Breighton isn't a million miles away, and there's a nice T67M available for hire at reasonable rates from York Flying School. No membership or landing fees. £100/hr dry. Can do aeros in the overhead so you're not flying for miles before filling your boots.
Come along for a look around this weekend. You'll struggle to find anything with a tailwheel that anyone will let you hoon around in up this way. There is a Pitts S-2B at Full Sutton but that's dual only. There was/is (it got smashed up in a landing accident) an Extra 200 at Wombleton.

Welcome to the "converting a foreign commercial licence" club. Wouldn't be such a long road if they binned the pointless theory requirements... Obviously nobody is up to the job until they've passed 14 pointless exams.

If you want some cheap flying I am trying to set up a group at Barton (a little flexible on this) around an RV - ideally a 7 but also looking at a 6,8 or even a 4, these are all Aerobatic and I am an Aeros instructor so can cover that bit. Currently I have earmarked an RV6a that could be bought for around 8K/share with monthlys of £60 and £60ph depending on numbers in the group, there is also a 7 that I have first refusal on - better performance aircraft but slightly higher on costs and note available just yet, pm me if interested. Just to note that as well as being aerobatic the 6 will also cruise at around 140kts!
