recommend a flying school in Cuiaba, Brazil

Morning All,

I am travelling to Cuiaba, Brazil for New years and I would like to take my girlfriends father for a quick jolly over the Pantanal region (if allowed).

Can I ask a few questions about flying in Brazil.

1) Would anyone have a recommendation for a flight school or flight tour operator in this region that I could book with? (ICAO: SBCY ), a quick google brings up a defunct FTO website.

2) My better half and I are also going hanggliding over Rio , has anyone done this before and what tips can you pass on to us?

3) I would imagine that it ain't half hot over there , density altitude comes straight to mind, and I would be more accustomed to around 10 degree's Celsius. Would the more travelled of our forum share their tips for hot climates and insect repellent please?

Thank you all in advance, Happy holidays,

Fionn

I am just back from there. I believe there is an fto in cuiaba as I saw a c152 in the circuit and my guide, an FAA registered pilot, mentioned the school. You can though always fly with him, I think he has a commercial ticket, his name is Julinio . He has access to a c182 and regularly flies to the Pantanal. Google pantanal trackers and email him.

It is now the wet season...as of the end of October rains had not started...however..I'd look up the current conditions if I were you...it can get pretty wild. I also know that many of the lodges close in November December...for the very reason that the only route in from the north, the transportania, gets impassable. If wet it will be buggy and so you probably will only be able to fly over the wetlands and not stop off there.

It is a fantastic place though...but better outside the wet season.

Hang gliding Rio
Ps..I looked into this on my way out of Rio....it is totally unregulated and technically illegal in term of charging for flights with no commercial licences. Even considering that you probably invalidate any medical/travel insurance...legs as undercarriage, vertebrae as shock absorbers..not for me

Longwings thank you so much.

I found Julinio and have emailed him to arrange. I was getting worried as the only other FTO found was no longer operating.

As my better half is from Cuiaba we will be staying with her folks and then treating ourselves to a flight over the Pantanal so stopping won't be an issue.

And a 2nd thanks for the hanglgiding tips, I might watch a few people go before me first to check the standards (i.e. none again)

I am delighted for your reply , genuinely , I really wanted to get the future folks off to a good start , and flying over such a beautiful area is 2 prizes for the price of one.

Regards,
Fionn

Pleased to help...I hope you have a lot of fun..just be wary of the hang gliders...the equipment is subject to no regulatory oversight nor are the pilots.
