Prestwick Flying Club would do its best (who I fly with) but they don't have any full time instructors. However they are (I suggest) the most experienced, including an ex RAF test pilot and a current BA captain. Worth having a chat to see what's possible. If you can get instructor availability you wont be disappointed! Don't be put off if you can't get someone on the phone - it is a club rather than a profit making school but voice messages are checked (and a phone back will depend on BA shift patterns). There is good availability with our "new" Robin which I enjoy flying.

A perhaps better bet would be Prestwick Flight Centre who have (I believe) one full time and a number of part time instructors.
I've actually had a few lessons over the years (long since expired) at Prestwick. I grew up in Ayr so it's an easy location for me too.

I had no idea that the flight centre and the flying club were separate entities. I assumed the flight centre was kind of the commercial front of the flying club or something!
I'll definitely give them a call! Thanks!

Ok, so i took some advice and contacted Prestwick, going to nip down tomorrow for a chat. They encouraged me on the phone, regardless what i do, to get my medical out the way. I've booked in to get that done on Wednesday.

The question is, how long does your class 2 Medical take to get sorted and can i fly without it. (I understand its just for solo).

Half a day examination & you are ok. You will renew it as required, annually, two yearly? depends how old you are, to keep flying as P1. The flying school are advising you to get it done as soon as possible to save you wasting money on training & then finding that you can't pass as fit to fly, in which case you won't get a licence. Praps they told you that?

Yeah i think it was a combination of getting it to ensure i'm fit to fly and getting it early to avoid having to wait for it.

If i pass the medical, am i given a certificate there and then or do i have to apply for the documentation? If so, can i fly/begin training before it arrives?

Providing the AME doesn't find anything requiring further investigation IE if you have a clean bill of health, then he should issue the certificate there and then.

A medical is not required immediately to fly with an instructor.
