Seeking Varieze and Long-EZ pilots

Are there any pilots flying the Burt Rutan designs, the Varieze or the Long-EZ, who would be willing to entertain a fellow pilot for the day?

I am based between Bristol and London and am fascinated but the design, I would love to get a flight in one and chat to a pilot about the operating the type.

If anyone knows anyone, please put me in touch. I can offer a flight in the aviation equivalent of a classic British sportscar in return if you fancy it.

Thanks.

JT

Hi,

I have a LongEz and a Cozy, and I'm based at Gloucester.

I'm in the US for a month or so, but give me a call and we can swap rides - what is it you fly?

There is a Varieze for sale at Henstridge. Unfortunately the owner died some months ago and it is being sold by the family. Asking price is 12k I believe.

I, too would be interested to know what activity there is in the UK. Someone is selling one in Scotland but the ad is several years old.

Thanks for that. I have sent off an email to ask what he is asking.

(I note that there is even a Tipsy Nipper for rather more than £9K. Apparently it is amiable).

The aircraft does not currently have a permit but it will be sold with the permit inspection completed, only requiring the permit check flight to be undertaken to allow the grant of a full permit

The airframe has around 110 hrs and the engine 540hrs total time
The engine is a Continental 0-200-B pusher configuration recently fitted with BC lighweight starter and alternator.

Instruments Angle of Attack indicator,ASI ,altimeter,VSI ,electric turn and slip manifold pressure.engine oil pressure and temperature, ammeter, voltmeter, carb throat temperature. Becker radio ,Memory Map Gps and 7 inch Phablet in rear seat capable of being used with Sky Demon. The Phablet may be inter- changed with the front seat Memory Map
Aircraft empty weight is 736lbs
In order to make this aircraft into an accepted two place machine an increased aircraft max take off weight has been approved by the LAA to 1140lb on the basis of a flight at this take off weight.

If you are really interested in the Varieze this machine is well worth an inspection.
