imc on easa ppl

Apologies if I've missed a post with the answer to this.

My ppl is now an easa one - can I still do the imc and retain the decent privileges.

If I don't finish before April - is it all over?!

This has been asked, maybe, 20 times on here? Most recently, 4 days ago: http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/523081-ir-r.html

You can add an IMC rating, as an "IR(restricted)" to an EASA Part-FCL licence before April 2014. The IR (r) is identical in all but name to an IMC rating.

After that date, unless something changes (which various people are hopeful about), you can get a separate UK PPL which you can add an IMC rating to. However, the use of this UK PPL would be restricted to Non-EASA aircraft (such as SA Bulldogs, but not PA28s or Cessnas 152s).

Hey tomboo

How long did your licence take to come through?

Sent mine a week ago and was just wondering as they haven't even taken the money yet

My experience was that they took the money just before they put it in the post.
I believe the average is around 10 working days at the moment, which is considerably better than what it was at the beginning of the year!

Huge Tip about new licences!

Just got my new EASA PPL/IR(R)/Night with over the counter service at Gatwick - only took 1.5 hours wait! Saved courier charge of £6 and it was very pleasant experience, lunching in CAA restaurant whilst waiting. Highly recommended, but...........the new licence is a miserably small bit of paper that has to be folded to the size of a credit card to fit into the cheap looking blue plastic folder. Much less impressive than my original CAA job. But here's the big tip given me at the desk when they handed it over. Apparently people have been known to cut the paper licence up, so that the sections fit into the seperate sleeves within the plastic wallet - I can see why that would be tempting (and it would then be like the old licences - PPL, FRTO, Experience and IMC renewal sheets etc. in different sleeves), but was warned that that would invalidate the whole thing! Don't cut it up!

And an even bigger tip is to photocopy it (its just A4 after all), then cutup the photocopy to fit into the different sections, keeping the original carefully folded at the back...

Note - you need to have your medical with it for it to be valid. Not the easiest to fold it up to fit into the wallet too...

If they don't want or allow you to cut it up then why number the pages as individuals and hive you a folder with numerous pages?

Stupid! Ive cut mine to fit!

Is it really no longer valid?

£See below!!!

Yes, you have just made it invalid (read yellow card that came with it). Sorry buddy.

Did the service desk today - 1.5 hrs all told (EASA-ing, IMC, Aerobatic). Very pleasant staff. Just one bit of advice though. Read CAP804 before you go. Amazing how many idiots turned up today with the wrong forms. It's not hard people! (If in doubt fill out a form - they can always tear them up on the day). Don't worry about the payment form of course since you will be doing it in person. Much better in person than the 50 day wait for my CPL(H)

And turn up before 0830 unless you want a long wait. The wait grows exponentially (ish) with each passing hour. Guy behind me had to wait 4.5 hrs! They have also lost some of the cards with numbers on so if you draw 8 you might actually be third.

CAA Jungle links to here:
Request a Replacement Pilot Licence | Private Pilots | Personal Licences and Training
Where it says £46 (and there is now an online application form for damaged licences which might make life easier).
