Amanda Harrison Tiger Moth solo to Australia
With Tracey Curtis Taylor now exposed as not having flown alone in an biplane to Australia what about Amanda Harrison? The original Race to Darwin must still be on?

My name is Amanda J Harrison and I plan to fly solo from England to Darwin, come along and live my dream . . . For years I have dreamt and planned to retrace the route that Amy Johnson flew solo in 1930.
It was the first time a female pilot flew from London to Darwin SOLO, and it hasn’t been done since in a Moth aeroplane.

Always wanting to fly, Amanda left school at the age of 15 with no useful qualifications, with one teacher saying all she would be good for is stacking shelves in a supermarket. So after working hard to obtain her Commercial Pilots License and follow one of her dreams she now fly’s Tiger Moths for a living.

I have been wondering for some time whether the original plans for Amanda to start her trip to Sydney at the same time as TCT were scuppered by the much higher profile plans of the latter. I wonder if Amanda found it much more difficult to raise sponsorship because of TCT and therefore had to postpone her trip. I have absolutely no evidence for this but it would make sense.
In this light, I wonder if all of those who are disgusted with TCT would contribute towards Amanda's trip and raise her profile as a genuine attempt to emulate Amy Johnson as closely as one can in modern times, and really show up TCT for the fraud she is.
I should add that I have no connection with Amanda, I have met her a couple of times but she wouldn't know me from Adam. For all I know Amanda might be horrified at the idea but, as it has been going round my warped mind for some weeks, I thought I should mention it.

I have never met or have any contact with TCT or Amanda.
However I would like to see someone fly a genuine route as Amy Johnson did in a similar aircraft without the massive sponsorship and entourage enjoyed by drama queen TCT.

I remember listening to her on a radio programme. She came across very well, sincere AND genuine.
I also recall reading somewhere that she said madam in the 'Sprit of Artiface' had scuppered her plans.
If she is still up for the genuine solo UK - Darwin, I'll kick off here with £250.00 which will give her a few hours of Avgas.

A nice gesture Jetblu but it would take a lot of time for crowdfunding to get her there.
What her campaign really needs is a major sponsor such as Artemis who sponsored TCT.
Of course it would be nice to think they were impartial and prepared to sponsor another more honest solo event but I suspect that would destroy an image they have created with Tracey.
Amanda really needs a generous corporate sponsor although the cost of the trip is mainly fuel,clearance and accomodation compared to the TCT entourage.
The Daily Mail gave a prize of £10,000 to Amy Johnson which is around £600k these days.
As for the endurance of the DH Tiger Moth...is it not similar to that of Jason?

I understand that technique was used by Maurice Kirk to get his Cub to Australia
some years ago?
But it appears the extra fuel is more than the weight of an airline pilot in the front seat.
I have not researched this but Amanda must feel it can be done.

What is rocket route?
Some bits I recognise such as Chittagong Bangladesh to Chiang Mai,Thailand then Bangkok to Malaysia and Singapore. The flying from India to Australia is fairly simple. If she wants scenary the alternative is through Myanmar to Phuket Thailand. Amy went via Rangoon which is now called Yangon. I was there a few months ago.Given a choice I would prefer routing via Myanmar(Burma).
Paraplegic Dave Sykes did it in a microlight so it is a manageable trip.

Logistics was probably much much easier than today however the flip side was technology, (nav aids, met forecasts etc) was pretty primitive (as likely was any cartography for some parts of the route) and the reliability and ability (performance/range/pilot comfort) of the aircraft left much to be desired by today's standards.
