Thumbs up 2010 Jersey International Air Rally

Hello everyone,

No sooner have we tidied up after this year's rally and display, we are already planning next years rally.

We have a few new ideas (more to come later), but the thing to note now are the dates.

We have moved it back to the end of May British Bank holiday, 28-29-30 May
Put these dates in your diary and book your aircraft (if part of a group or using a club plane).

Look forward to seeing you then.

Thumbs up Update

Hello Everyone,

I hope you have been able to get some flying done, even though the fronts seem to be getting more frequent.

A quick update for the Rally:

We intend to get the application forms ready by Christmas, I will keep you informed.

Secondly, the Pomme d’Or Hotel has promised to give a small discount for booking early, the same as this year’s Rally.

Further information will be passed to you as soon as I have it.

Happy Landings

Thumbs up Rally Update

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all well and already finished the Christmas shopping.

I have an update for the Rally for you:

1,
We have our Guest of Honour, Fergus Woods, the Director of Civil Aviation for Guernsey and Jersey. He is a true friend of General Aviation and it is an honour to have him attend the Rally as Guest of Honour.

2,
We can announce that we already have 2 entries for the Rally, one from UK and one from Norway. Those of you that want to enter the competition for longest distance travelled need to get your charts out, to see if you can win.
We have had a winner from South England in this trophy, with some serious flying to the far north of Scotland, before realising the DI was incorrectly set?

3,
I can also advise you that the offer from last year for early bookings, is back.
If you book before 28th February and pay a £50 deposit, we can offer you a £5 per person per night discount on your entry fee.

I will update you as soon as I have more information.

Have a good Silly Season

Talking Snow at JAC

Hello Everyone,

When Northern Europe was covered in snow and ice it was so severe that not even the Channel Islands missed it.

The following link will show you our parking area and club house in the middle of last week’s traditional weather.

Jersey Aero Club - Snow in January 2010

This weather is not expected to be experienced by you in the rally, but you never can be 100% sure.

Hope you get to the air soon.

Happy Landings

Thumbs up Less than a month to go to enjoy the discounts

Hello Everyone,

A quick reminder about the ‘early bird’ discount offer if you enter before 28th February:

We have a limited special offer for the rally entrants who want a single occupancy room, ₤60 off the single rate, if you book before 28th February.

This offer only applies to the first 10 single rooms reserved, Friday & Saturday night only, and cannot be used in conjunction with the Sunday night free offer.

We also have the ₤10 reduction per room (double occupancy) offer if you send your application form and deposit before 28th February; this covers Friday, Saturday and the optional free Sunday night.

You now have less than 1 month to enter, to enjoy these discounts, don’t delay enter today!

Jersey’s Aviation Fuel prices in January were:

AVGAS ₤1.07

Jet A1 ₤0.75

AOPA Member discounted price:

AVGAS ₤1.02

Jet A1 ₤0.70

As soon as I know the February price I will let you know.

If you are flying from the UK, don’t forget your draw back allowance for fuel carried south of the 50˚N parallel.
Imagine a state of nirvana, tax back from the UK government, subsidising your fun over Normandy finding clues and winning prizes, followed by a fill at almost 50% off the price of fuel in one or two airports in the UK.

No need to imagine; it will be here, in May, in Jersey!

Happy landings

Thumbs up Rally Update and Urgent Reminder

Hello Everyone,

A quick update and reminder of time running out to enjoy the discounted rates.

The French start point?
We are still waiting for a response from the French Authorities regarding customs facilities at Lessay. It looks increasingly likely that Cherbourg will be the starting point for the rally.

When you arrive at the Aero Club, from now until the Rally, on a well earned weekend away, you will see a banner from airside, inviting you and other visitors to return for the 2010 Jersey International Air Rally.

Don’t forget to reserve your Sunday Lunch with Luc and Edith at Cherbourg Airport (on the application form), not only will you experience their Europe wide, well loved Norman hospitality, but also you will be able to take good quality wines and spirits back home at EEC allowances, your biggest problem will be weight and balance calculations.

We have a new leaflet for you to download and display in your Flying Club, you will find it at:
Jersey Aero Club - 2010 Rally Poster

Finally, the February fuel prices:

AVGAS ₤1.12
Jet A1 ₤0.75

AOPA Member discounted price:

AVGAS ₤1.07
Jet A1 ₤0.70

Thanks, looks kind of fun. Can we change aeroplanes once we have entered? If the new one is ready I'd like to take that, but otherwise the old one will have to do....

Talking Changing Plane

Hello Englishal,

I think you can change planes, if you give plenty of notice.

The important thing to remember is the performance, time to fly the course, time overhead the start and calculated (by us based on your info) finish time (point seen at Jersey).

This is crucial for safe separation of the competitors.
If your figures/performance is the same, your new pride and joy would not be a problem, just a small ammendment in the administration records.

For further info please contact our Rally Manager on

[email protected]

Look forward to seeing you there.

Im planning on being there but coming from Scotland means there's a reasonable chance I might not make it due to weather.

I enquired by email as to what the situation was regarding cancellation refunds if I was unable to attend due to weather - either at my point of origin, enroute or at Jersey.

Im still a bit confused as to whether I would get some, all or none of the money back.

Can you clarify ?

Smile Reply to question

Hello 140KIAS,

I have asked for clarification and will confirm later.

I am in a different part of the world at the moment so cannot get a quick reply.

If you want to contact Eveline (Rally Manager) direct, her Email address is on my reply to Englishal.

We regularly have Scotts attend, to enter into the distance competition you can start flying at 05.00 on Thursday. They normally make it.
Many either fly to Jersey on the Thursday and then compete on the Friday, or get close to the south coast on Thursday then fly direct to the competition point, to arrive at the start point at their allotted time.
(Some of our competitors are so good at this there was 1 year where winner & runner up in the first competition were only 1 second difference and the runner up was only 2 seconds out)

I will let you know as soon as I know.

Happy Landings

Smile Refund Question Update

Hello 140KIAS,

Sorry for the delay in giving you an answer but I have been waiting for a definitive answer to your question.

Unfortunately I still have not received a detailed answer due to Eveline being away, but I was told in a quick (Blackberry Style) Email, we refund as much as we can.

Once I get a definitive answer I will post it.

A reminder to all you potential entries, you only have 7 days left to take advantage of our discounted offer, offer ends 17.00, Sunday 28th February!

Book now to avoid disappointment!

Further updates later..

Thumbs up Reply to 140KIAS & a reminder, time's running out

Hello 140KIAS,

Eveline has returned and she has informed me of our cancellation policy:

Cancel up to 1 month before the rally, full refund

Cancel between 1 week and 1 month before the rally, £25 per aircraft Administration fee, other monies will be refunded.

Cancel between 1 week and the day of the rally, the cost of 1 night accommodation and the £25 Administration fee will be charged. There could also be charges for meals pre-prepared but not consumed (I expect Friday only), but we do not know this definitely because all these charges come from the hotel and catering company we are using.
All other monies will be refunded.
(Of all these deductions, the Rally only takes the £25 Administration fee)

We will make every effort to refund as much as possible.

My advice to you is aim to get to Jersey on Thursday, then once here you can relax (even if it is bad weather on the Friday), don’t forget to put your rally number in the comments section of your flight plan, no landing fees in Jersey for rally aircraft.

Hope this helps.

A reminder for all entrants, only 5 more days left for you to enjoy the discounted accommodation offer.

Don’t delay, book today.
