I live here. I'm in one of the condos and my mortgage is waaaay less than $4K per month. I can walk to my hangar. Poplar Grove is probably one of the most awesome aviation communities out there. We also have an EAA chapter and a museum.

For slightly less money, one can come live at my airport. I run the Timberon, NM runway, E02. We are at 7000 in the Sacramento mtns. Deer, Elk, cougars, pines, spruce, and very quiet. Lots sell for $15k, can put a mobile home, or cabin on the lot. Chip seal runway, 5000'.

It’s a nice piece but the media does love to overdramatize. While the airport is surely one of the nicer residential US air parks (I’ve been there) the house is worth $700K, or a fraction of a nice house where he works in SFO. So if the mortgage is $4K a month he has approximately zero equity in the house. I’d imagine he set it up that way so that he could keep rental properties in urban areas with their fast appreciating value, and let them pay the large mortgage and more.
i hope he’s not really putting jet fuel in his piston powered T-34
