Videos & Fairoaks Airport

Hi,

Type Landing at "Cedar Key Runway 05" into You Tube, I have Venice Beach and Fairoaks (Surrey) on there too.

On the subject of Fairoaks, is there anyone out there who has a clue what's happening there? The management sure as hell don't, there's been no fuel for 3 months now, it just keeps staggering on, but having an aircraft based there is a real Pain in the A***...

I'm sure you are right. I have no doubt my instructor will be reminding me about that in the build up to my skills test

Hey guys, here are 3 videos from last Sunday. I did my 2nd solo after a 3 week wait from my first solo as the weather had been rubbish through most of August.

I'm doing my PPL training with Wycombe Air Centre at Wycombe Air Park. Best choice I could have ever made

Take off (video is a bit rough at full power)
YouTube - 2nd solo, take off at Wycombe Air Park

Touch and Go

Landing

Hope you like!

I think you meant you 3rd link to be this.

Some nice flying. It's a great feeling when the instructor jumps out isn't it?

Does anyone have a link for the "Full Throttle" video as posted by SlowRoll some time ago? It featured P3's doing aerobatics in Switzerland with a great soundtrack?

Cheers

Whoops... thanks for that

Yes, its a brilliant feeling. Mainly because those nerves you might normally have flying with an instructor suddenly dissapear and its replaced with excitement

Thumbs up

Hey Ademeister, I really liked you vids - the camera mounted in the back is a good idea. I am based at Wycombe, did my first solo there in 2000: seeing your instructor jump out brought that happy memory back to life

Good luck with the rest of your training - make some vids of your Solo Navex land-aways!

Hey Andy, thanks! The camera should have been a little higher, but I know for next time. I'll also plug the camera into the aircraft headphone socket so I can record atc as well. I plan to bring out the camera a lot more

Wycombe is a great place and I'm happy I chose it over Denham or Elstree It's just a shame we get so much hassle from the local NIMBY Mrs Pratt! My instructor Eve is brilliant, funny and always put me at ease. Are you part of any of the flying clubs there or private?

Doesn't work - I've tried it. I think the signal is too strong for the camcorder mic input - massive distortion.

Possibly placing an airband radio near the camcorder would work? That way you would get the engine background as well.

Also I find in the Cessna 152 you can't put the camera any higher in the back with a suction mount due to the size of the back window.

All in all I don't think it's possible to set up a camera position that adequately combines footage of your good self with a good view out. I think you need to go for one or the other - unless you have two cameras. Personally I would go for the good view out.

Once one starts flying cross country still photographs work better in my opinion. Set the camera to 1/500th second or faster. If on your own take a good look out for other aircraft etc, raise the camera as close to the window as possible and point and click and go straight back to looking out - checking height heading speed.

Any other ideas?

Landing in Saanen (LSGK)

For those who like landing in the mountains... Saanen, including the full procedure with the turn around Gstaad.

Landing in Saanen (LSGK) with a DA40-TDI

And the take-off (less impressive):

Take-off from Saanen in summer in a DA40-TDI

Remember that introductory flight is advised.

No Cubbing for me today as the aircraft went tech
But I did a few circuits in the 152 to test my head mounted camera thingy. I think it worked quite well. It was pointing down and to the left a little bit too much, will sort this for the next attempt.

I have done this successfully (in the past), I think it depends on the aircraft/intercomm/camera combination; Easiest solution is a small mic in the earpiece.

Landing on Solas beach

YouTube - Solas Beach landing

Solas beach on North Uist is also the vehicle access to several fields. Give way to any traffic on it. The windsock seen on the left, after the forage bales, is only there for the fly-in. There are no facilities. Check tides. There is B&B nearby.

Squeegee Longtail, I moved the video to the Military forum. One reason it was moved is it does not belong to you. (and it has nothing to do with Private Flying)

A quick reminder to people who post here, the video has to be yours. Someone else could have done the filming (i.e filming your first solo etc)but the video must be your own, no-one else's at all. If not then we would be overrun by videos that we have all seen a million times before...

Finally a quick thank you to you all who have contributed to an amazing thread. Many thanks.

Keep them coming.
