Woman sued El Al

Renee Rabinowitz, 80, takes legal action against El Al after strictly religious male traveller refuses to sit next to her for fear of 'immodest' inadvertent contact.
Woman who sued Israeli airline after being asked to switch seats by Orthodox Jewish passenger wins case | The Independent

Wow, some men fear women so much that the woman will 'inadvertently' touch them in an immodest way?

Something tells me we haven't heard the last of this type of incident (not confined to El Al).

What happens if the women refuse to move? Do we send for United?

All they need is a Series5-777 to take it far enough back in time

By all means, they can refuse to sit next to women, LGBT, service animals, priests, mullahs, their PM, or anyone else if they want. But don't expect any of the above to move for them. And please be quiet about it.

I hope you bought a ticket that allows you to change flights.

She had settled into her aisle seat in the business-class section when the passenger with the window seat showed up: an Orthodox man who complained about sitting next to a woman. A flight attendant asked her to change seats to accommodate him, and she gave in reluctantly.

How old was this Orthodox muppet? Seniority and all that; she's 80. She was there first. Possession is 90% ownership. Why didn't he move? This inadvertent inappropriate touching. Was he afraid of groping her or she him?
She should have claimed Golda Mier was her mother. Now 'go forth and multiply'.

I can only imagine what Barbara Streisand would have said; but then does she ever stoop to El Al?

El AL and passenger seating difficulties

Israeli airline can no longer ask women to move from seats next to ultra-Orthodox men

Could make for interesting flights.

Of course, the man could always move; and if the only spare seat was in economy.....or if the only other seats were also next to women, he could always get off.

Indeed, they could always have him offloaded and arrested. Hope other airlines use this as a precedent for their own policies.

That these people are tolerated in the 21st century is just sickening.

Sit down or get off the plane

There is a simple solution available to these men - buy two seats.

I can safely assure you that 99.9% of the Jews find such attitudes by these Neanderthals totally objectionable. Even those of us who would be considered observant can find no religious text that would even hint at such behaviour. The problem is these people don't care for anyone other than themselves and they think like that because they are brought up to think like that.

It is a disgrace, but there is no way of challenging/changing the culture in which they live in the short term. It has developed over 75 years or so of post Holocaust victimhood (even though they were not victims) and will take twice as long to eradicate.

They know what they are doing, but hide behind a beard, hat and feigning lack of fluent English.

The behaviour of these men is called 'victim shaming'. Pushing their aggressions and short comings onto an innocent person.

Sorry but you do challenge it. Every time. As I said above, get in your seat or get off the plane. Kick them off the plane. If they cannot live in the world normally then let them off back to whatever medieval region of the world they come from and let them at it.

Quite frankly refusing to sit beside a woman because she is a woman should be illegal. Victim shaming is right.

1. First world problem.
2. Seems like a good decision handed down by the judge.
3. She paid for her seat, why not have the complaining party move?

In another thread, same subject, it says an Israeli judge has forbidden El Al from asking pax to move to accommodate these archaic practices.

I've had these lovely people on my plane. I make their life simple. I allow them to chose to behave like civilised people and fly or get off. The latter also means their ticket is void. Nobody has got off yet.
