At LA airport's new private terminal, the rich can watch normal people suffer
The guiltiest pleasure at Los Angeles international airport’s [edit] is the iPad that sits on a counter at the entrance, with a typed little note: “Here is a glimpse of what you’re missing over at the main terminal right now.”
There is an interesting if America focussed debate on this on another forum. Some say its offensive some say its good 'cos it keeps the paps and fans and other hangers on out of the main terminals.
For me I would ban private jets and any form of private terminal and absolutely no special arrangements for security or boarding. like Limos etc.
Not because rich folks shouldn't have that but they have the power and influence to sort out the often awful experience at the airport for the rest of us. If they want to pay for a box at Stamford bridge or Royal Ascot or $5000 a night hotel thats fine but airports NO, they have to travel with the herd for security reasons and to push those with influence into making the process work properly for all of us

It's not all the Kardashians or rock stars that use private aviation. A lot of big business use this side of aviation. You know, the ones creating jobs (not in the least bit limited to the VIP FBO/terminal staff) and bolstering local economies... I have no issue with this.

Yes, even your local supermarket TESCO. Think they had six biz jets until they hit their financial problems a few years back. Now down to one, I believe. Wonder how many they charter, simpler to camouflage it in the books?

It wasn't that many. They flew Citation CJ's from Luton. Funnily enough, they are a business tool used to increase productivity and flexibility.
They briefly took delivery of a Gulfstream jet, obviously they did not have it long. G-CGUL.

Why would it bother you if they chartered jets now?

They all say that - you know I've never heard anyone say that they were just an expensive convenience paid for by the pooor shareholders and customers? If they are so "valuable" you would think they'd hold onto them when things get tight
There is a case for Business Aviation - especially in N America - and if it's used properly it can even save you money - but only of it's available for everyone's travel in the Company - not just the Board jetting about

And you nay sayers all come back with this type of retort!
Of course there is a case for business aviation. That's not the debate here. Just look how popular it is and let the numbers speak. It generally does save money for the companies that use it well. An aircraft is a time machine to them, they can visit several sites in one day and be productive during these flights. These are the people that put a value on their time. They value the expedience of private aviation, with its time saving ability and the ability to go on your own schedule to airports that the airlines wouldn't necessarily serve or have poor flight times. It can save on the cost of putting up staff in hotels too, there are many variables here.

HH, a number of corporations - some are household names - where (almost) anyone on the payroll can travel on the 'expensive convenience' once the routing is fixed.
Do you always eat at McDo, or sometimes go a little more upmarket?

I would love a flight in one, just for the experience. Any one fix me up?
Cheeky, I know but if you don't ask you don't get!

G_ARZG - I agree
I've worked at a place where the Company made no secret of its aircraft, where the people who could initiate a trip were all named and where the Corporate Travel Dept. were primed to "fill-up" any plane with the common herd if they were going in the same direction.
On the other hand I've also worked for an outfit where even enquiring about the corporate plane was almost treason and which seemd to spend much of it's time ferrying the CEO and his family to various sun, sea, ski and golf destinations
As ever the greedy spoil it for everyone else

I think,it is disgusting that people with money can have this sort of privilege over and above ordinary working people.
Just checked my Euro Lotto ticket and it seems I have won £125 million!
As I was saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with the rich having a bit of TLC and not having to rub shoulders with the prols.

Oh well, you have just saved me the time and effort of checking my ticket! Any chance of a flight on your aircraft when you buy it? £125m could get you something nice
