Unusual de-icing method?

Found this online:

Turkish Airlines' DIY De-Icing Method Does Not Inspire A Lot Of Confidence - Digg

I wonder where this is. And isn't de-icing an airport service, not provided directly by the airline?

Reminds me of a prat in Eilat chucking hot water over one of our wings because he thought it would remove frosting caused by over six tonnes of fuel at -15C

To be fair to Eilat town airport, the above happened at Ovda.
The orig was just too attractively alliterate.

This topic has been discussed in another thread, as DaveReidUK shows. However, that thread has been closed by my colleagues, so I expect that it is being discussed in a technical forum. So do have new information before posting here!
