Star Alliance connection
Hello, I will fly to Frankfurt with Thai (business class) and likely onward
with Lufthansa. I have to buy the Lufthansa ticket separately from
the Thai one. Anyone know if the check in desk at Bangkok will be
able to check me in for the onward and check my baggage through.
Obviously this affects the onward flight I will choose. Thai here in NZ could not
advise me. At the moment it looks like arrive FRA 06.00 and depart 9.50am.
Would that be enough time to collect baggage and check in again at the transfer desk
in FRA if need be.
It seems there is a Star alliance terminal, ie 1 and pier A is solely Lufthansa.
Many thanks, John

Yes, done just that many times on separate tickets. In fact the only place I ever have issues with Star Alliance separate tickets is the USA and that is not every location.

Should be fine at that time of day. Last time I flew into Frankfurt from Canada at 6am with baggage checked through to Italy, I took 15 minutes to get from gate to gate. Later in the day, it can take much longer.
So even if you take an hour to get your bags and check in again, that should leave plenty of time to get to the gate.

I think you're right to be concerned. A few years ago Mrs norrie had a problem with 2 Star Alliance airlines (British Midland and Thai) purchased on separate tickets, refusing to check bags through transiting LHR. She made it in the end but a bit irritating since she paid more for the BMI ticket compared to non Star Alliance alternatives on the basis she believed in the 'benefits' of an alliance... "No Madam - you have to collect your bags and check them in again..."
