The earliest you can get to the West Coast USA.

Since Ethiopian introduced their direct line from LA to Dublin this year, for the first time it's now possible to get to the US west coast in time for an almost full day of work. Their plane leaves DUB at 6.15AM and arrives at 8.50AM at LAX. Plenty of time to get to a job or have a day meeting. A little tip for those who might need it.

I wish it was possible to go the other way and not lose a day, but alas, it is not. I very often in my line of work get last minute calls where they ask "can you be in London tomorrow morning for a job?", and even though they might call me early in the morning LA time, there is no way for me to physically get there with the time difference lost because no airline leaves early enough. If there was a morning flight leaving LAX, I could get to London in time, but they all leave in the afternoon.

But again, Ethiopian also leaves the latest from LAX, so as long as they call you the evening before, you can get a late plane out and not lose yet another day. Leaves at 11.45PM, so you're in DUB by 5.45PM the day after. Enough time to get you where you need in Europe for the day after.

Flew the trip in June on their nice 787, and they did a good job.

Yes, it would be nice if you could put the clock back 8 hours going in both directions - I wonder why you can't ?

If you had say an 0930 departure ex LAX direct to LHR you would arrive at around 0400 the next morning. If the airlines thought there was a demand for this they would operate such a schedule. It really makes no sense at all to depart LAX until after noon. If however you're desperate to reach LHR as early as possible, depending on how early your client calls you, you can depart LAX at 0935 and arrive LHR at 0635 for that early morning meeting by flying American and routing via Chicago ORD. Multiple other connecting services are also available. So what's the problem exactly?

Problem is I don't like American. Or connecting.

I can remember when TWA ran a Tristar daily from New York to LHR - leaving around 08:00 getting in early evening

Always seemed poplular but you had to get up damn early or stay at the airport overnight which rather took the point away............

Concorde was another matter of course

For many years the nonstop TWA 747 used to leave LAX at 1230 and get into Heathrow at 0630 next morning. It must have worked for them, and allowed connections onto both ends (which the daylight JFK-LHR flights do not), but all flights on the route have bunched together later in recent years.

= after noon as mentioned above. The OP gave the impression he wanted something leaving LAX much earlier and that will just not work as a non-stop for several reasons.

rereading this I'm a bit baffled

if someone calls you first thing LA time you might be able to get to the airport in time to get the 15:35 flight to London getting in at 09 00 - that still gives you most of a day in London

If they call you late afternoon and you were able to get a flight at say 08:00 from LAX the next morning you would get in around midnight to 02:00 into London - what's the difference - you get 6 hours sleep on the ground but it's still the next day when you start work??
