PF or PNF?
On many short haul flights a second cockpit announcement is made to passengers during the flight with route/weather update.
Is this announcement usually made by pilot flying or PNF?

PF or PNF?
It all depends on how the crew feel. I've made announcements when acting as PF and PNF, with a clear declaration beforehand of "your control, your ATC" and afterwards with "my (whatever duty I'm undertaking"
In my mob it tends to be PF, done just before or after the approach briefing.
Depending on where we're going, if one pilot speaks an appropriate language and he other doesn't, the one who speaks the correct language will do the PA.

In my last airline it was company policy for the Captain to give the initial 'welcome aboard' which was done whilst still at the gate then the PF would do the remainder of the PA's, kept to a minimum as the CC usually have a fair few announcements to make.
Listening to them tonight, I was wondering what the actual point is. Is it just that people like to hear from their pilot/who is flying them or do they serve another purpose? (Besides the obvious plea to listen to the safety brief)

you can't win with PA's some pax hate them and others love them and the majority don't care and don't listen to them.
So the pilots just do as they are told and make them when they are told to.
To be honest on the loco's with all the ****e that gets announced over the PA the crew could be giving an evac briefing and I wouldn't be listening.

Captains says 'Hello' on the ground.
PF generally makes information PAs during the flight.
PNF will be the one telling the cabin crew to take seats for take off and landing.
As SLF I like hearing a decent PA telling me where we are and how high we're flying. If the pilot doesn't make an effort and sounds bored I always wish he or she hadn't bothered.
So my PAs are generally cheerful and (hopefully) interesting. I imagine very few people listen.

FWIW and possibly pedantic/trivial, the PNF label has been overtaken by PM (Pilot Monitoring) on the grounds that Pilot Not Flying sounds as though s/he's doing nothing whereas Monitoring is an task integral to the ac operation.
ps no need to talk to the parcels in a freight operation.

My most common experience (as SLF) is that the Captain does the welcome announcement. He usually introduces the cabin crew and makes some very flattering remarks about them (I'm never quite sure if this is laced with sarcasm - it is always well hidden if it is). He then declares that his FO will be doing the flying and will keep us up to date with progress.
Sometimes I am sure I can hear the rustling as he folds his copy of the Times to the crossword page!

I enjoy hearing them, just wondered what the 'drivers' think of them!
There is/was one pilot with Flybe on Q400s that I had between Edinburgh and Manchester a few times a couple of years ago who was very funny, especially the night we were delayed by fog.

A couple or three years ago when SAS introduced WiFi on their flights it was free. Flight from Arlanda to Heathrow, airborne and an announcement is made about WiFi being available, everyone goes for their devices. To put it politely the WiFi had teething problems but it led to my favourite ever announcement from a cockpit: "Ladies and gentlemen, I am sorry but the WiFi is rubbish so we are switching it off".

I love hearing the announcements. I like to know what I'll be looking down upon and the routing.
I have heard it done by both the PF and PNF, they normally tend to introduce who they are and I like that. It's nice to 'know' who is upfront.

Nor have they heard of the reason why CC are only known by their first names - and for some, those are not their real names.
