Boarding Pass on Ipad?

Can't see any reason why a boarding pass on an iphone, ipad or pc shouldn't be scannable. It certainly is on a Kindle.

Anyone tried doing this at Gatwick?

The do it in other countries, has it reached here yet?

Used it too, without problem

Wouldn't photocopy though when I needed to keep copy for work.

Or use the Passbook function on io6 to store your boarding passes. If you're flying Lufthansa or American, that is...

I used LH frequently two or three years back. They would send you an e-Boarding Pass to your smartphone, consisting essentially of only a QR code.

It worked perfectly well at FRA or MUC, but on a transit stop in SIN, the equipment installed there would not read it when re-boarding the same LH flight I had flown in on (fancy that in Singapore, of all places, which always promotes its supposed excellence).

Train tickets on the TGV are scannable by the ticket collector whether they are on laptop or smartphone.

However having seen one lady getting in a flap and having to charge her laptop so her ticket could be scanned makes me think that a sheet of paper kept in a pocket isn't always an old-fashioned alternative.

I use a BA app on my android phone (Galaxy S2) and the boarding 'card' is on there. Scans at the gate etc. You can also download a copy in PDF for submitting to work etc.

I always use my iPhone when flying KLM.

Boarding card barcode can be emailed to you, SMS'd to you or retrieved via the KLM app.

Works fine at LGW. At least with the BA app on the iPhone at North Terminal.

Well, the cost of the tablet, or £/€60, up to you.

As long as they operate using however many handling agents from some pretty small airports, their one-size-fits-all approach means they will want to be able to see / keep a paper copy -or at least the tear off bit.

Now if you want to tear off half your tablet and let them have it, then fine. Otherwise stick to paper. I always have a spare copy in case I end up on any muggers' alley on my final night / day before departure.

I have used my smart phone plenty of times for boarding passes and never had an issue, also never encountered any problems at work. iPads however are a bit different. Yes, they still show the same barcode, but the size of the screen makes it impractical to scan on most airports scanners (the ones I work with at LHR are too small, they don't read the iPad screen, I've had many pax try). A phone is easy to hold face down and scan the screen quickly, an iPad not so much, it's designed for 2 handed use really, unless it's on a table or stand. It's not always possible to hold it the right way so the barcode hits the right part of the scanner and you of course risk hitting the screen on the scanner and damaging it. I'd go so far as to say it slows things down quite a lot and have seen pax running their finger around the screen trying to get the barcode to locate properly or enlarge/reduce it enough to make it scan!

To be honest I wouldn't bother downloading it to an iPad, but a smart phone (iPhone)...no issues there.

Seen it done on the ipad at Gatwick. The boarding agent was not amused though.
