I have come across some excellent reading matter for all commercial pilots, past and present, and all frequent flyers as well. The book is "Beyond The Blue Horizon", by Alexander Frater.
This is not a new work: it was first published in 1986, and is an account of Frater's epic flight recreating the route flown by Imperial Airways from Croydon to Australia in the 1930s.
Well worth reading.
