Pilot dies in SA plane crash - Yahoo!7

A pilot has died in an aircraft crash at Pallamana near Murray Bridge in South Australia. It is believed he was an experienced flyer, aged in his 30s, and crashed his single seater plane into a farm paddock about 11am (local time).
The crash will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Bugger. Single-seater, sounds like Ag work? Any info?

Less likely to be Ag, more likely Aerobatic, could however be anything, there are several single seaters there of various types.

mostlytossas 29th Jan 2012 04:13

More than likely an ultralight or simular. Murray Bridge and other nearby airfields have heaps of them.
No doubt we will soon all know.

Was Aerobatic, Pitts Special.

Police say the pilot was practicing barrel rolls during a set routine for an upcoming competition.

Was Aerobatic, Pitts Special.
My heart hit the floor when I heard that on the TV, because I immediately thought of Chris Sperou.

FullOppositeRudder 29th Jan 2012 08:57

It wasn't Chris.

It wasn't Chris.
No. As soon as they said the age of the pilot I knew it wasn't Chris.

I know the pilot involved but I won't mention his name until it becomes official. He will be sadly missed at MB airfield.

He was practicing an aerobatic routine for an upcoming airshow I believe when something went wrong - no idea what at this stage.

Wally Mk2 29th Jan 2012 10:58

Damn..............a great loss to all! I won't mention his name out of respect but a quick search shows who he was (assuming A/C owner),so another now flies with some other great names up there in hopefully a better world!

RIP.

Just getting off the sadness of this I believe his Pitts was a 6 cyl version, I didn't know they existed but man it must have had some grunt!

Death crash pilot 'not fully trained'

In my opinion the comments by Paul Bennet were inappropriate and unkind.

When I read the article my first thoughts were that I hope Rob Morgan's family don't read it, which is unlikely given it would be published nationwide via News Corp.

Paul Bennet is not without critics in the Australian Aerobatic Club.

Wallsofchina 29th Jan 2012 23:10

Shouldn't the key issue be whether the comments are true or not?

VH-XXX 30th Jan 2012 00:06

There appears to be a divide within the aerobatic comminuty.

There's the airshow performers (money makers) and the competition pilots (focusing on skills). Neither seem to get along and they don't make a secret of it.

I can't help but think that this is relevant in this case, be the comments true or not.

YPJT 30th Jan 2012 01:14

Bennett clearly had some sort of axe to grind regarding Mr Morgan.

If he wanted to shoot his mouth off about how much he knew, he could have at least shown an ounce of decency and waited for the coronial inquest.

I know nothing about either person. What I do know is that there is often a lot of criticism about investigators not releasing findings quick enough so that they may be a lesson to each other. Paul Bennet obviously feels strongly on this and I would not hold it against him using the current media attention to warn others not to fly aircraft, or fly them in ways, they can not handle.

And a totally different view:

Stunt pilot killed at Murray Bridge - Weekly Times Now

Interesting he had a low level sign off.

It does smack somewhat of axe grinding doesn't it, especially a couple of days after.
