PNG Weather Cameras
Years ago there was a website that had links to various weather cameras throughout the country, the website still exists however all the cameras appear to be down.
Does anyone know if these are any weather cameras in PNG these days?

Web site shows cameras at Mt Hagen and Goroka. Kagamuga Airport cameras don't work.
The two Goroka cameras are working. Mt Hagen not so...

Have I got some news for you!
Thanks to our friends at MAF, a package of 24 weather cameras has just arrived in PNG!
Some airports will have 1 camera and the rest a maximum of 2, so there will be 14+ airports included.
Half of them are a proof of concept funded by a sustainability fund and subject to the success of those, many more may soon follow.
I will post a list here when I’m back on my PC.

How does this list look? I honestly don't know much about the terrain there, other than the obvious, so I can only assume that these airfields were chosen for the terrain and weather conditions.
These have all been purchased and I'm expecting some movement on installations very soon.

Excellent choices; challenging weather related airstrips are most important. Passes and saddles in mountains ranges likewise.
BUT; be aware ! wi-fi, regardless of connection to/from camera (ethernet) is unreliable. A good quality UPS (uninterrupted power supply) of a few hours capacity would be a worthy consideration.
Hopefully the rascols will leave them alone.
Which types and brand of cameras have you selected?

The MAF installed webcams are availble directly with weblinks, Windy webcam layer, or the Cameras option on Ozrunway. The cameras upload an image every 10 minutes, but Windy only pulls once per hour.

More cameras expected to be online "before Christmas" (waiting on shipping etc)
Anybody looking to get their own cameras set up anywhere should look up the team at auswebcams.com, they are awesome to deal with and will get you set up.

I heard they were all in various Cash Converters stores...
During the APR surveying in Papua (Iran Jaya) the Army surveyors would lay "Planning Plastic" around a newly created survey point creating a large cross. We would then photograph it from 7000 agl'.
We would leave Biak to photograph a new marked survey point.on the edge of a village in the "birds head."
Overfly the point and no cross.
Not sure who replaced it for the next day, but not there.
However we could see the plastic being used as roofing material in the village.
Solution was to enlist the services of a local "security" promising that if he looked after the plastic on the ground, he could have it.
That seem to work.
