Vale Maurie Baston

Sad news for those who knew Maurie Baston. I received an email from Maurie’s partner, Ulla, this morning saying that he lost his battle with cancer yesterday.

Maurie was a true aviator in every aspect. Former RAAF fighter pilot, the Sabre and Vampire era, 747 Captain, Chief pilot Air Naru, senior member of CASA, Consultant and Ops manual writer for Virgin Blue as a startup, and friendly adviser to many in the industry who gained a lot from their association and assistance from this great man. I would guess Maurie was a member of PPrune and perhaps the Mods can confirm that if appropriate?

Farewell and Blue Skies Mate.😔

A former RAAF chief flying instructor and airline pilot of superlative knowledge. Maurie Baston will be sorely missed by his students and friends.

Sad news, time is catching up with so many.
Professionally and personally Mauri was one of the good guys, all my associations with him, whether with "the authority" or later as a consultant were always amiable but efficient.
Tootle pip!! to a bloody good bloke.
