Cardio Thoracic Surgeon

A (pilot) friend requires heart surgery. Does anybody know or can recommend a surgeon that may even be a DAME? Obviously after the surgery he'll be looking to regain his Class 1 and continue working as a pilot. Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated by this chap

In Melbourne this team Phil Antippa is a star but may not be the right member of the team for this job.

Melbourne Private have a good team. Don't know if the Greek Prof is still working there, but he is tops. Had a mate have a replacement heart valve there and had his class one back a bit over six months later. Some restrictions, but not limiting for his rpt job.

Agree. Had my heart valve (mitral plus double bypass) replaced at Melbourne Private there six months ago. Was out of hospital within 12 days and never felt better. I wouldn't worry about the surgeon being a DAME or not. Cross that bridge when you come to it.

Dr. Terry Mau for me in Brisbane for aortic replacement, back in 2010. He also sent the reports to CASA. I've been back in the air since with no issues.

Claudius - Aortic valve, or Aorta?

I had my ascending Aorta replaced with Dacron in 2005 and will probably have my valve replaced inthe next 3-5 years.

Dr Rohan Bhagwandeen in Hamilton, Newcastle, for me.

Well done.
I was determined to walk out under my own steam and did so on Day 6 too.
I went very pale and a bit blue aparrently, but I did it.

Great that you're still flying, in Aus I will be limited to as/with a co-pilot
