Industry Post John Holland Aviation Services
Well it is only a couple of weeks away I am told.
The doors will shut on what was without a doubt another lost opportunity to do great things. What are people's views now the end is near.
Did they just not get it?
Did they get it and not care?
Did they try and push the envelope to beyond current status quo?
Is it a good thing they are going?
What are people's intentions in finding work in an already cut throat industry?
Where are the contracts going?
Views in general?
Maybe it was lost long ago?
While I hope for the best for the workers left in this predicament, I wouldn't mind knowing how such a large parent company like John Holland could fail in such a short period in this industry.

Hmm hard to say.
I saw first hand how JHAS management went out to the customers and promised a certain amount of work. But when the airframe was pushed into the shed, there was not enough time or manpower to do that pre-agreed amount of work.
Then I saw an customer who would fiddle the man-hours per task to keep it at 80hrs, then jump up and down when all of those tasks were not completed. While they gave their own team about half the amount of work.(70 tasks for them, 140 tasks for JHAS.)
So a combination of customer wanting solid gold service for a silver price.
But I guess when JHG group did not win the Terminal 4 contract or the other improvement contracts at Melbourne airport, the truth about the whole plan has come to the surface. Most people wondered why JHG/Leighton kept a constant non profit operation active. Now I see it was all for access to the 2 billion dollar contracts at the airport.
No won contracts, no need to keep the premises.
Best of luck to the boys and girls out there.

In Melbourne, AMSA has won contracts for Air Asia X and Royal Brunei and are may also get Vietnam back. Didn't win ANZ, Cebu Pacific or PAL.
Looks like Cathay Pacific Engineering has picked up PAL.
Rumour here is that even Qantas Eng is bidding for some of JHAS' contracts, including ANZ. Alternatively, ANZ may set up their own base which, considering they fly 9 transits a day to MEL, may not be a bad idea.
Ultimately, the planes keep flying and someone has to fix them. So I wouldn't expect that all of JHAS' workforce will be forced out of the industry. That being said, it'll be tight as, once again, too many engineers compete for not enough spots.
Best of luck to all.
Cheers,
John

Writing is on the wall. Or forum as in this case!

Just got one more "thanks for coming" mail in the post today from the inept JHAS management team.
Am waiting for my PAYG summary form from JHAS, only to receive the PAYG summary from 2012.
Even after the place has shut down the HR staff still can't even get things done correctly.
Anyone else receive the same treatment?

Low cost entry to certain key items, gives something to start. Yes it will take more, including a lot of drive and determination, but hopefully there's a few people who can make it work.
