Temora Warbirds

I suspect that most know of the Temora Aviation Museum and the significance of the amazing collection of Warbirds assembled there by David Lowe. The biggest fly day of the year happens on Saturday.

Any souls going?

Yes, I will be making the trip. Although I did hear half a report that HARS have had some difficulties with the regulators that may mean the Connie can't make it. I notice the Neptune isn't scheduled to appear either, believe it is grounded. I hope they managed to sort things out, but in any case there will be an impressive collection of warbirds on display, so I won't let that ruin my day!

Temora Warbirds

What a great day it was, especially as Connie turned up looking absolutely spectacular and graceful. Hell of a hot day, though but a great presentation

I,for one, am very pleased that we have David Lowy as the generous benefactor - without him, many of those warbirds would certainly have gone to God.

It's amazing how people complain about the costs at airshows almost as if it should be free!

A movie, popcorn and a drink for the family is generally more than a day out seeing millions of dollars of aircraft put through their paces...[go to a concert or the rugby big matches and get really fleeced]

Well done to DL and his team and congrats to the new AWAL team of Directors..

I always go to these things expecting to get fleeced by the concessions. Its the same at any event.

I will say that at least the organisers managed a reasonable price for water at $2 per 600ml. We went through heaps of it.

I wasn't within earshot of the announcers at the time but does anyone have a view about whether the Hawk's touch and go on 36 (and subsequent landing on 23) was part of the show or he just found himself with a little too much tailwind component? From where I was it looked like he hit the 36 deck a little heavier and faster than normal which was not surprising given the wind conditions at the time.

Along with the low Constellation pass which always gives me pleasure, the formation of spitfires, Hornet, Sabre and Meteor was my highlight and in bumpy conditions was a great display of pilot skills.

A great day and will be back in 2 years.

Here's a fantastic interview with David Lowy. Incredible bloke and an amazing thing they've achieved there at Temora.

A most enjoyable show, with top performances by all aviators in trying conditions. The jet formation was impressive, as well as the Merlin fleet. DL's Spitfire display was also a major highlight. Having missed out on gold, silver or bronze seats we sat in the open public area. None of the afore mentioned tickets were available on the net after midday of the day of release!
Food prices weren't too bad, paid $3.70 for coffee. Toilets handy and no large queues. Only gripe for me was the parking of the Winjeels, CT4's etc along the crowd line. They blocked the view of the touch down area of the runway, spoiling many photo opportunities , as well as creating a dust nuisance starting up. Sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat kept the sun at bay.

Does any one know why the Canberra didn't fly?

There was an aircraft (it might have been the dragonfly) stuffing around at the 36 threshold as he came in, which may have led to an attempt to land long. Yes there was also a heap of tailwind. Not part of the show IMHO.

If I heard the announcement correctly when the Hawk went around they said something about a problem with the drag chute not deploying and a higher than expected tailwind.
