Dennis Fairley

I was shocked last night to see on Cairns local news that Dennis is on the missing persons list, not having been seen since Sept 30.

Having worked with him over several years at GBR Helicopters, I have great respect for Dennis as a skilful, dedicated engineer and good bloke, and can only hope this story turns out to have a happy ending, although it sounds pretty bleak at the moment.

Nobody heard anything yet, apart from the news broadcasts? I hope he's OK.

No mate, unfortunately I haven't heard anything at all.

I last worked with Den in 2008, then didn't hear anything of him until the news reports that said he was missing.

Nearly 5 months now, I don't know if anyone else has heard of any leads?

Dennis Fairley missing

Great Bloke, and a very good LAME. I worked with Dennis in 1994/1995 as an AME on Fixed Wing and Rotary machines. Hope we hear some positive news soon .

Dennis at rest

Hi All

If you did not see in the Cairns Post last weekend Dennis was cremated on Friday 6th Dec. I was privileged to attend the funeral service. His death was tragic, the details of which remain respectfully with his family.

I will however express my disgust at the Christmas party celebration that was hosted by GBR Helicopters that Friday night with no regard for the great man that spent many of his last years dedicated to the company.

Dennis bought so much to all that crossed his path and he is dearly missed.

Post Dennis Fairley

Can anyone let me know what happened to Dennis. He was a friend and neighbor of mine for several years. His wife Sue, also, was always in my life. Then we moved away from Castor St Clifton Beach and so did Dennis and Sue, even so, my husband Terry and I went to see the house they had built in Clifton Beach. But we then moved down here to the Gold Coast to live. Several times we have been back to FNQ, but Sue has sold her house and no one seems to know where she is now. Can someone let me know how Sue is and what happened to Dennis. Thanks in anticipation of a genuine reply. Rose Webber

Hi vanurose,
Thanks for your recent post about Dennis. I am his sister, in NZ, attended his memorial service in December 2012 and a family celebration in October of this year. If you are interested in contacting me, I can update you on some of the recent events since his tragic death. Thanks to all of you who have such high praise for him, it means a lot to me that he was so well-liked and respected in the aviation community. He was very proud of his work and dedicated to doing the best he could.

I have only just discovered your reply. It has taken me a long time to even be able to contact you tonight. I have finally been able to recover my login details and password.
My name is Rose and my husbands name is Terry. Dennis and I were good friends and often talked every chance we could as we lived next door in Castor St, Clifton Beach. We used to look after their dog when they went away until she died suddenly, I think her name was Gabby, but its been so long now. Please let us know what did happed to Dennis and where we can contact Sue and their two sons. I know one was at Cairns Base hospital becoming a doctor and the other a Chemist. I know Dennis always mentioned you and NZ. I miss him so much. My email addy is
[email protected]. Looking forward to your reply. Rose and Terry Webber
