Jepp Mobile FD for iPad

Has anyone tried the new JeppFD app? It adds enroute mapping to the terminal info available in JeppTC.

I am having trouble adding route details after selecting departure and destination airports. Anybody had any luck with this?

cheers,

Nivo

Update: Jepp support advised rebooting the iPad which cured the problem. They advise they are working on a fix for this issue.

As for the problem you are having, it is an issue that we are working on. This happens when the coverages do not touch on land. Yours is not working because you have the Far East and Australasia.

Received the above from Jepp last night. Guess a fix is on it's way

The Australian maps and approach charts are working for me. The more you zoom in, the greater the detail. You can even have track up for VH-XXX!

As Jaba said, this and Ozrunways - all you need.

Cheers,

Nivo

blueloo,

I asked Jeppesen in Canberra and they said the JeppView subscription which is what the app asks you for is $273.95 for the first year.

You can use that subscription on 4 systems too.

Jabair had its first Jepp FD mobile experience today. Works well, except the list below.

No Freq Data on the chart (or I can't find where to turn it on)
No User Waypoints (that I can find)
Did an RNAV and did not see the GPS position on the chart like the old FD does, (which is no biggie for me but the FTDK seems to think so)

And the OzRunways by comparison, for IFR and VFR its still way in front with WAC's etc etc etc, I do prefer the Jepp plates and the en route charts are clearer.

Anyone know of the user waypoints and the hibernating are being dealt with?

I have just emailed them about these things, who knows if it makes any difference.

Are the Jepp FD functions all working?
Im trying to add route waypoints specifically airports with both NDB and VOR. For example I stick in MDG but want the track to originate from the VOR and not the NDB. Is there a way to differentiate between the two?

Cheers

Jaba,

How'd you get the JeppFD to show your position on the airway?

I tried today, with an external (Bad Elf) GPS, with Airplane mode on, and off. All to no avail.

Cheers,

Jay Bo, I've contacted Jepp about that problem. Basically there is no way to specify a VOR or the NDB and the route algorithm defaults to the navaid closest to the direct track. What happens then is that if it defaults to the NDB, but the VOR of the same name is what defines the airway, it won't accept the airway as part of the route. It is frustrating as it's a pretty fundamental function of a flight planning/routing program to be able to specify what type of navaid you want. I suspect this has happened because it's made by Yanks, and the Yanks have forgotten that some parts of the world still have a significant number of NDBs.

P.S. You can work around it by just manually entering waypoints though the tracks won't be quite right particularly where the NDB and VOR are some distance from each other.

They need a way to save routes as well. And they could do with giving you more than just the departure, destination, and two alternates.

Clarrie

By actually flying on the airway, you need to try a bit harder with your nav skills

Ok seriously, go to you iPad setting and make sure the LOCATION SERVICES has you Jepp app on. The when in Jepp FD poke the own sip icon and you should be where you meant to be.

Anyone know if user waypoints will be released any time soon. I can't leave home without them.

When I press the arrow icon to display present position, it can take up to 10 minutes to actually find where I am. How long have you been waiting?

I am indoors right now and this image took 10 seconds max.

You do need to press the OWNSHIP ICON in the bottom right, and maybe you have turned it off.

And for Forkie's benefit......The Retard Vehicle off track a little, but check out the speed and altitude

Ranga....sorry about the spelling etc...bloody iphone keyboard. iThings are great devices but they never replace a good keyboard and puter!
