What I was referring to, is if you think you can simply log out, delete cookies, log in and re-register... you would be just kidding yourself! People that commit crimes like that, usually get caught.
You might be surprised to know that Internet Cafe's usually have surveillance cameras that will out you on the PC at that time, meaning if you did commit a crime on the Internet locally you might be in a little bit of strife!
When I was at Uni a guy logged onto a forum pretending to be Kerry Packer. They managed to catch him through matching the IP to to PC and the surveillance cameras. They only caught him because of his "out there" hair style as the cameras weren't very good. He was made to publicly apologise.

No, you can't and wont win, so have a bit of fun along the way eh
For a mod to threaten Wal is a little bit baffling to me? There are mountains of numpty's on here that deserve that honour

As far as actual crime committing, I think the biggest issue is with public wifi hotspots in places like airports and train stations, or regular cafes. You could easily operate a small computer or smartphone, connected to one of those hotspots, in a way that would be impossible to detect on surveillance footage. And as others have replied, it's often possible to change the MAC address to something untraceable, even if that wireless router did record the MAC address you were using.
Sorry for the drift...back on topic, I do think there needs to be a "sticky" post with an FAQ that explains what topics are banned. That would reduce the complaints of inconsistent moderation which is what the complaint is primarily about.
