Don't worry too much about the cadet scheme VH DSJ . It's fallen victim to the company's poor financial performance of late. There will be no new course this year, or for the foreseeable future. My guess? It will sail quietly into the night, never to be seen again.

Thanks for that air command. Really makes you wonder what Westboundflyer was on about. Probably a cadet hopeful trying to assure him/herself a spot on the next course?

Pretty rough comment there, we all know how hard it is trying to land that first job!

Wonder where westbound flyer has disappeared to. Anyone else have any factual input in regards to recruitment at VARA or mainline?

Given they have just wound down the PER Ejet base and have re-assigned those affected onto the 737 or back to east coast bases, I can't see too much happening numbers wise in mainline.

They are in the process of sorting out the VAA/VAI numbers presently but we have been told there is a net gain of zero across the board.

I must say I'm surprised at that as most of us are working well in excess of our min guarantee, and on every other day off my phone rings off the hook asking for draft volunteers.

I'd never say never but for the short term, expect little to change.

So who has been getting phone calls? I have heard of 777 and nz positions being discussed but I haven't been contacted by HR. Just put me out of my misery already

VARA to join the virgin group seniority list 1st Jan 2014. Anyone who has joined or will join after this date will be behind EVERY single VARA pilot in seniority. I don't think Virgin is a viable place to go if you're an external applicant with experience. What do others think about this integration?

Yeah I think alot has changed for externals now with VARA integration. I think it is still viable if you have another 20 odd years you wish to persue in flying (assuming VA are around then), otherwise I would stay put. Thats just my opinion.

Apparently those who got in know already.

2 external applicants + 4/5 from VARA.

Hold file to disbanded and all future VA entry is via VARA.

Word of mouth from someone who spoke to HR this wk.

They didn't get the gig.

Happy to be corrected though but it would match info that VA are looking to start all new hires on the ATR.

If all applicants are now going through VARA then VA is going to have a hard time poaching guys from the ADF... That's a pretty hefty pay cut for a senior FLTLT/SQNLDR to take...

VARA integration is anything but a done deal. The four who jumped from VARA to VAI were just lucky to get through before VARA decided it wasn't a mainline training school and stopped the rest from jumping across. Don't expect any more VARA-VAA/VAI movement for the foreseeable future unless management change their minds

So let me get this right. Someone who has applied through VA for a position with VA, met the requirements and standards of VA will now have to yield to a very long list of people who have not done any of that?
Well if that's the case I think VA have just moved away from one of the airlines of choice, career wise, to equal last.

Why did we feel the need to integrate the pilot list? Those that pushed for it would tell us improved opportunities (well that's a given for VARA drivers).
More likely a desperate attempt to appease one group to prevent the other from being undercut.

I'm yet to be convinced of the benefit of it.

To all those on the hold I feel very bad for you if this indeed pans out the way it is looking.
