CTC Hamilton Instructor Recruitment
Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what the selection process for instructors is like, what i need to brush up on, what they look for etc.............

General math quiz, written test that checks, for instance, the use of reference material, interview, group problems, PILAPT, and a sim ride.
Fairly intense, no-one gets 100%.

For instructors there is also a preflight brief required - GAP manual will be fine, but they are big on the UK instructional techniques - questions!
That's assuming you're already an intructor - if you aren't, and are applying for the sponsored instructor program, *don't* - get a C Cat somewhere else and then apply for direct entry.

Be precise when explaining/pattering stuff. Ie dont use terms of the like “increase power a little bit”, they are looking for figures etc. Interview process is a long event, however its pretty good exp. If you’ve never done a pilot apt before. And if the DA42 sims are busy, then its fun times flying in the King Air sim.

You'll find they are very deliberate with their instructor training when it comes to patter, building blocks, technique etc...

oh well... my mate who did the sim ride, said "a little bit" with increasing power in a steep turn, then got his arse kicked for it.. i for one teach increasing with numbers, however instead of looking inside, know what a 100rpm change sounds like. Works well.. I guess the students from CTC, the very next day after finishing they are looking inside with their scarebus flying

If the testing guy says "its 1230 now and I want to be taxiiing out by 1pm", don't plan on a 10-15min pre flight briefing because you have yet to preflight the plane etc, still give him the full long briefing. A nice little trap that one.
