mostly homes around the South Lakes area, not sure of the rental costs but seeing as Perth is rapidly approaching the most expensive city in Oz, lots $$$$! Good golf course nearby though...
Most avaition influenced souls seem to procure domicides in the South Perth/Como area, mostly townhouses and apartments but good proximity to JT and the City (used to work at JT and lived in Como). Good pub (the "Como") and lots of young people/students and the like to socialise with. Also good proximity to cafes in South Perth, as far as I know the beer and coffee is the same as everywhere else in Oz - except maybe Halls Creek
Otherwise Willetton is quire a good area, closer to JT and still reasonable for rent (hopefully!) but seeing as they are predominantly homes you will want to share to alleviate costs...
