Speeding Fines
Hey guys I've been in the east since yesterday and became aware of the sad loss of life in Qld. earlier in the week, it wasn't mentioned in WA. I was in my hotel last night watching the ABC news and there was a female "reporter" commenting on the plane crash. (Now as you may already know I have left the industry as I was fed up being paid a paltry sum for the work being done. I am now "back" earning good dollars again (obviously not flying) but I watch on this site for any familiar faces.) Here's my question to you...how many of you have been issued with a CASA infringement? Because according to this feckin dweeb, pilots are issued with infringement notices as commonly as drivers are with speeding fines. And who were the two bollixes on the news one claiming the guy was sacked for disciplinary measures and the other stating it was engine failure?
Aerlik
I know exectly where you are coming from. unfortunately I have no other qualifictaions.
Flying was fun for the first 20 yrs and then it became a pain in the rrrsssssss.
Overnights, and more overnights, the bigger they get the less of a pilot you need to be, more a computer operator and hence less satisfaction.
I still like flying it self,but a s a job it sucks.
Its all B/S.
CASA has the ability to "fine" pilots and operators, as per CAR's how ever I am not aware of many instances.
To take a minor infringement to court and prove it is expensive and possibilbly not worth while.
So I put it down to more newspaper/media crap.
Absolute nonsense.

I flew for 40 years and never copped an infringement from CASA or any other air regulator. However, I have lost count of the traffic speeding fines which I continue to collect. I get p!ssed off when they nick me for 5 k over, but accepted with good grace the ones I copped in the past for going much, much faster, as a form of fun tax. Call me irresponsible....Just like those two Virgin pilots who attracted all the heat in these forums some time ago for going a bit quick on their motorbikes. Good on 'em I say.
However, as they say in the Virgin cabin brief there is a serious side to flying. Pilots generally do not go out to damage their careers by deliberately breaking the rules of the air. Most infringements are either unintentional, or the result of employer pressures in certain unscrupulous companies.
The stoopid journo coulda said pilots love speed perhaps, but what relevance would that have to a plane crash?

Yeah, right!
In 35 yrs flying I have not even seen CASA (or their equivalent) in the field ....... but I have lost more points for speeding than I care to count (not enough digits)!

The lovely highway patrol
I think people take aviation infringments a bit more seriously because they are given out less. Being able to be fined for anything on the road makes people take it less seriously as everyone you know has been booked for something at some time.
Driving in Australia you definatly have to factor in some kind of budget to account for driving fines and parking fines per year. Do you think it is possible to have a credit with the authoritys ? So when they get you , you can just say take it off my account ?

It's About the Value of Your Licence
Your flying licence cost thousands - against bugga all for your drivers ticket, and it's an ongoing annual/biennial cost to maintain it - unlike a drivers licence
The diligence exhibited on the roads reflects just that, although it's probably only one reason of many!
If we ever reach the stage where CASA have access to drivers licence details - then 'DD' and 'attitude' may become very important. Doesn't the FAA have this power in the USA?
happy days,
