Delivered to 82 Wing 06/10/70. Served with 6 Sqn RAAF. Badly damaged 19/10/70 at Amberly QLD, after an inflight equipment failure the aircraft was damaged during landing. The nosewheel stearing and brake anti skid were not working. The pilot recieved minor injuries and navigator was un-injured. The rebuild took 18,750 manhours. Headed to Bankstown this morning for a one-way ferry flight via Moorabbin to pick up the aircraft owner. Conditions at 8am into Essendon and Moorabbin were IFR with restricted VFR operations permitted with one aircraft at a time only.
So after arriving into Moorabbin under some very special VFR, it was a departure to the South (to get out under the crap), then over the top to north of Melbourne then onto Bankstown via a stop at Albury. A nice and handy 20 knot head-wind all the way taking 4 hours. Oh well. She then settled into her new (original) home back at Bankstown with a very happy new owner.
There's some familiar terrain in there in pics for 3, 4 & 5 that many of you will know.

Dixon,
Almost but no cigar. It was double that.
And it was indeed Peterborough International Airport. Very busy airspace down that way.
Only down side of that trip is I now have an 11 year old son who dreams of flying helicopters. Oh the shame!!!
