Shooting at KOKC - Will Rogers Airport, Oklahoma City

Odd that the airport is shut down if it was just the usual 'random act of violence'. Is the shooter still at large perhaps?

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma City Police say at least one person was shot after an incident at Will Rogers World Airport, Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities tell News 9 that the shooting occurred outside of a parking garage.

According to EMSA, one person was transported from the scene in "emergency condition" to OU Medical Center. Police have not said if that person is a victim or the alleged shooter.

An airport spokesman said via Twitter that all inbound and outbound air traffic has been stopped due to the shooting. In addition, OKC Police say they have shut down the airport and are asking those inside to shelter in police as the investigation continues.

Sounds like the tag on the suspect vehicle, a Honda, comes back to a former Southwest Airlines employee who was recently terminated for drinking on the job. He is said to be ex-military.

Local police tac team and FBI SWAT are in the process of clearing the airport parking garage from the lower floors up.

Quite possibly a case of airline workplace violence.

According to EMSA, one male victim was transported from the scene in "emergency condition" to OU Medical Center. Just before 3:30 p.m., police confirmed that the victim had died at the hospital. A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines said the victim is one of their employees. That person has not yet been identified.

Nightmare memories of PSA Flight 1771.

Oklahoma City airport shooting suspect found dead

The man suspected in the fatal shooting of a Southwest Airlines employee at Oklahoma City's main airport on Tuesday was found dead inside a vehicle hours after flights were halted and a shelter in place order was issued, police said.

Oklahoma City Police announced the discovery of the suspect in a statement on Twitter, but provided no other details.

The shooting victim, Michael Winchester, 52, was the father of football player James Winchester, a long snapper for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was shot in an airport parking lot, Oklahoma City Police Captain Paco Balderrama told reporters.

The airport has returned to routine operations.

For the edification of our foreign guests, enjoy the following definition:

In American football and Canadian football, the term long snapper refers to a center/centre whose duty is to 'snap' (from a somewhat crouched position, propel the ball to the kicker) the football over a longer distance, typically around 15 yards (13.7 metres) during punts, and 7–8 yards (6.9 metres) during field goals (3 points) and extra point (1 point) attempts.

I just spoke with one of the FAA Aeromed folks at OKC. He said the shooter had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, a tragedy all the way around.
