UAL Pilot Cadet Program
UAL/Lufthansa Career Path Program

You pay for your CFI, get hired by ATCA (see above), get your 1500 hours/ATP, and then you're online at UAL mainline.
AA has a sort of similar program, except when you get your 1500 hours, you go to Envoy, then AA later.
Jet Blue has a Cadet Program, but it's very, very expensive.

Looks like UAL had this program earlier but starting a bit higher up the ladder...at a regional. Bypassing the regional stint is an interesting twist. Or...maybe I've misunderstood something.
I "think" Expressjet may also have been in cahoots with them too but the details escape me at the moment:
“You will not need to complete another interview but must receive a “Recommend” for hire by the United CPP Administrator and United’s Pilot Selection Board, after completing a final performance review of the standards set forth in this CPP program.”

I do not see where it says that upon reaching 1500hrs you go to United. I am interested in this program, even though I have well over 1500 hrs now.
And yes, Expressjet has a program similar to Commutair's program.

Zonda,
Yes, the announcement was a bit sparse on details. Cutting out the regional experience would be a new wrinkle...if that's what they're doing in this deal.

Interesting, in my time at ATCA instructors could only be hired with 1500 hours experience as CFI. Seems there is indeed a shortage now, or they are simply not willing to pay enough anymore as their new cadet program will be completely self funded.

Zonda,
In a somewhat related vein, some pure scuttlebutt came my way re UAL hiring plans in general: UAL is said to be stopping street hiring in the very near future to concentrate on those applicants from the Expressjet (ERJ) arrangement.
Have you heard anything like that ?
Does/would that even make any sense ?

I haven't heard anything like that, but Expressjet has the CPP program with United and they can meter the flow of new hires from the Expessjet ERJ side now, and maintain just enough pilots to keep the ERJ staffed as long as they need it. The contract with American on the Expressjet ERJ side is ending and the ERJs will return to American and be placed at their wholly owned regionals (MEC email came out last week), and the United ERJ flying by Expessjet has a contract expiration of 2017.

Zonda,
Well, the rumor I heard just doesn't seem to add up...unless UAL has a large backlog of those hired but awaiting a class date. That might allow a slow down in hiring to let training flow catch up (DL got their backlog down from many months to a few weeks). The "take" from XJT would necessarily be rather small(ish) numbers to avoid affecting XJT's ability to complete their contractual flying...would it not ?

Looks like a few Commutair folks made the jump to UAL:
