GI Bill (Post 9/11) for Type Ratings

After about 6 years away from the forum... Hello PPRuNe!

I have some GI Bill benefits which expire in 14 months (discharged in Aug 2002) and I am interested in using them for an A320 type rating in the US.

I have previously used about 3 years of my old (pre-9/11) GI Bill benefits for a Bachelor of Science degree. I hold an Australian ATPL and a US PPL.

My Certificate of Eligibility says that I have 6 months and 16 days of benefits remaining (I guess 4 years of benefits minus 3 years I took to finish = 12 months and then divide that by two because even thought I was active duty for five years only 11 months was post-9/11). The current maximum benefit is $12,048.50 until 01 Aug 2016.

So does that mean that I only get $6,024.25 towards my A320 Type Rating?

I have tried but I cannot get a straight answer from the VA and I need to budget.

Any hot tips on maximizing my benefits?

thanks,

FRQ
