FAA to JAA/EU in Sweden
I have an FAA ATPL and have recently moved to Sweden. I am just beginning my search into where to start the long process of obtaining JAA/EU certification. I wonder if someone might be able to suggest some good training options? (I do not have enough hours to forgo the ground school portion).
If at all possible I would like to work part time on the side to help make it work financially. Is this a ridiculous idea? Or, are there some self study options which could make this work?

Hi!
I recommend Flygteoriskolan Barkarby for the ATPL theory (If you are doing it) and Airways at Bromma airport for the practical conversion. I also have the FAA licenses and just did my conversion there. also did the ATPL theory at Flygteoriskolan. Very professional schools which delivers exactly what they say. the Head of training at Flygteoriskolan did the US certificates too and has great experience in converting it.
The people at Airways has a very good reputation and the head of training is an old swedish fighter pilot. they also have very nice aircraft (Diamond DA-40s and DA-42). I started there a week ago and completed the CPL/IR/ME today with barely 7 hours in the twinstar. Highly recommended!

yes, you could do the bristol distance learning and do the CPL test in sweden. You just need to write a letter to the swedish CAA and UK caa for premission. Be aware it is much cheaper to have a UK license intead of a Swedish license.

I don't know if the aviation school at Lund Uni is still running, but they have a distance learning ATPL option that is free (can't beat that price).
I heard they were closing the school though, so I don't know if that's an option.

eightthree,
keep me updated on your progress and which route you decide to take via PM or here o the forum. I will be deciding in the next several months whether to take my exams via bristol or sweden as well. I live in the states but would also like to convert my FAA licenses at some point.
Good luck!

Trolle,
Lund University School of Aviation is still in business, currently training approximately 50 students for MPL and ATPL licenses. The next distance ATPL theory class starts up in the end of August, however the application deadline was two weeks ago :-(

ilmarw,
Thanks for the update.
I enrolled in the distance learning program a number of years ago, but it was not a "real" distance learning program since it was required to show up once a month for 5 days at a time.
A great alternative though for those that are flexible and have the language capacity.
