Pax "terror" as MON jet aborts three times...

MON A300 with 335 onboard, bound for Egypt, failed to take off three times at LGW due to electrical faul and fuel. She ventually flew 8 hours late.

What particularly grates is comments, like one I read on the esteemed Daily Mail's website, about passengers "demanding another aircraft". Yeah - just like that

Also, some are questioning why the capt aborted. Would they prefer the skipper DIDN'T err on the side of caution returning to the terminal? Suppose these faults should have been left to manifest themselves six miles over the Med?

(I sound like rainboe - yikes.)

Believe me: If I had to abort a takeoff three times in a row, I would demand anonther aircraft as pilot. As passenger, I probably would have demanded to be unloaded after the second abort already...

Of course not. But after three RTOs (assuming that number is even accurate) I think it is reasonable to say that even the calmest frequent flyer will start to ask a few questions.

Leaving Butterworth(malaysia)in 1964 we waited for a brit to show up from Kuching(I think).It arrived late evening and was delayed while an engine fault was "fixed",we took of and shortly after one entrance door made mild eplosive noise and the passenger cabin filled with fog!The Flt eng and a cabin attendant(male)managed to do something with the door that brought everything to normal again.Then we had a lightening strike,landed at Santa Cruz (Mumbai old airport) and had to disembark as the same engine had a problem!!Took of much later and flw to Istanbul where the poorly engine finally gave up.As it was a trooping flight the Turkish police rounded us up and we were escorted to a hotel for the night ,next morning after (I think)an engine change we departed and finally landed at Heathrow.Customs charged me 16 shillings on extra fags,happy xmas I said!As it was near xmas we didnt demand another aircraft.Brit was British United Airways!!

I remember as a kid, being in a Sabena A310 in Brussels, and we taxied back to the gate 4 or 5 times! Flight went OK

I am amazed too that after the second attempt they didn't take a bit more time to fix it. Doesn't the airport operator get annoyed when you keep retrying (or do they get paid three times in this case?).

I certainly would.

Whilst not doubting the correctness of stopping, one would wonder why the sae thing happened on multiple occasions.

Did I miss something? Since when is Monarch not an "airline" and therefore why has this thread been put in the "non-airline transport" forum? Is someone trying to hide this?

Sorry to dissapoint all you drama queens but it was a non event, there were no RTO,s the FACTS are, a IDG tripped off line on the taxi out , the A/C rtnd to stand the fault was rectified by the engineers, it then taxied out again and developed a totaly unrelated fault (a filter clog msg was displayed) the a/c rtnd to stand and again this fault was rectified, end of story
It might well be worth in future waiting until you have the facts to hand before you start posting your ill informed drivel.
