Bermuda for a romantic getaway?

Thinking of taking Mrs SSK off for a few days at the end of March to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary – four days or so.

How might Bermuda fit the bill? Any recommendations?

Otherwise any other suggestions as to a destination? Starting point is Brussels, strongly preferred carrier is BA. The Gulf does not appeal.

Hi
Bermuda is avery very expensive destination and while its quaint its quaintness has more apeal to those on the western side of the Atlantic than the European side.
Like everywhere it depends what you want to do but the wx is not that reliable and as you might gather from the local tradition of flying kites on Good friday easter is usually pretty windy.

I wouldnt say dont go but I would say research it thoroughly to see if its what you wnt- also no hire cars in Bermuda-an expensive taxi or hire a scooter-not recommended as too much traffic these days

Yep, I'd have to say "quaint" as in the Scilly Isles and as Pax says the weather in March could be interesting.

Try the Azores for the absolute antithesis to Bermuda. Cheap, quiet, stunning scenery, fabulous food, wonderful people (not that Bermudians aren't) and a real island feel. And the Pousadas! Wow!
It won't be hot, it may be windy but so what? Prince Andrew went there on honeymoon which speaks volumes for the place.

Been to the Azores twice, the second time being the honeymoon 21 years ago, and I couldn't agree more, we regularly talk about returning - except that it will be for more than the 4/5 days I have available this time round.

Have taken aboard all the comments but continue to do the research. Would be travelling on BA concessionary tickets so the fare is immaterial but I am more than shocked at the £80 price tag for two roundtrips Heathrow-Gatwick.

Grand Cayman also fits the calendar constraints, and it's a Heathrow departure, but it means a deeply unromantic 06:50 departure on the first leg, and a long day's travelling thereafter. And hotels there seem to be considerably more expensive than BDA.

Caymans a hyper expensive chav hangout on 7 mile beach -island flat and windswept
Look at the Princess in Hamilton - good for a few days. 2days max to see all Bermuda has unless you like golf - beware downtown natives are getting restless

Four days in Bermuda would be just the right length of time for a visit. There are enough things to do and places to see in that time, from the Royal Naval Dock Yards to grown men in shorts and long socks. We walked the length of the island along the old railway track bed. If you want a special place for a romantic meal..and blow the cost..try Ascot's..but you might have to book before you leave the UK. The Caymens are boring by comparison and too far for the four days you intend. The weather in BDA might be a bit more unreliable, but it starts to get better from the end of March so you might be lucky. Mild rather than hot(60-70F) Take a taxi if you need to, but go by bus the rest of the time. Whatever you do,don't be tempted to rent a scooter. The sides of the roads are cut into coral like rock, and one mistake by the inexperienced can be a disaster as many a BA/BOAC crew members have found to their cost.

anyone know if they have changed the law regarding keeping vehicles?
Used to be that it was only one car per resident family allowed, if you scrapped the vehicle you had to pay to have it taken off the island. That's also why there are only mopeds and no hire cars.

Vizsla et al
The law has not changed in that regard it is one car per household though a small number of people can get around it by having Government or company vehicles but essentially its one car per house. The cars have got bigger and more numerous than when i lived there but with only 29 sq miles and no more roads than in my day your advice about scooters is best to be taken very very seriously.

It is not the place it was thats for sure -they even have crime now and gangs; nothing like Jamaica or some of the islands further south but Bermuda is so tiny you cannot 'maintain seperation'.

It is true that there are things to see -Dockyard is one and the lovely old town of St Georges, which is really pretty, at the other (airport) end of the island is another.

I do not like putting doubts in peoples minds about a place that was a happy home to me and family for ten years but it is expensive and there is more to it than gets put in the guide books-- Check out The Royal Gazette for the local daily newspaper and see what you think.

If you to go to the Azores at elast you may get to see one Bermudian feature , the white limewashed stepped roofs of Bda are I am told not uncommon on the houses of the many Azoreans who have worked in Bermuda since they helped build the airport (Kindley Field as it was and always will be to me) and as agricultural labourers ever since.

Good luck and good wishes for the anniversary
