A Spanish tapas place is MARE, near the Canadian embassy was very good. Dinner or drinks. RMB 20 cab ride from the new Marriott City Wall by the train station. Courtyard Restaurant next to the Forbidden City was nice for a drink but out of the the box pricey. Grand Hyatt has a very nice Chinese restaurant.

Texas Grill @ Holiday Inn Lido.. great steaks !

...and after a hearty meal just next door.."Pig and Whistle" for your daily dose of the wicked brew....surrounded by great looking wonderbra-ed China - dolls...some not that good-lookers when lights are switched on !

Better watch out though. may cost you an arm and a leg

Serve The People - really nice Thai place just to the North of 'Bar Street'

(There's a Greek place next door to it as well)

Also, 'Schindlers' opposite the Saudi Embassy - German-ish theme with good Weissbeer and excellent steaks.
