Bratislava hotel advice requested

A group of us go away every January for a city break. With the ever-increasing price of fuel and flights it is getting harder to find somewhere fresh that is affordable and with flights at the right times for us. Next year Bratislava looks favourite. Last year we went to Prague and found a lovely hotel, the Central, two minutes walk from the old town square, some great bars and restaurants nearby, and not too expensive.

So we are looking for something similar in Bratislava - anybody got any ideas? Also I'd be interested to know what the situation is there currently regardng currency - are EUR generally accepted nowadays or would it be best to take SKK?

TIA

Many moons ago I stayed at The Perugia Hotel in Bratislava (easy to Google) - remember it to be very clean, confortable, quiet + with friendly staff. That was some 10-odd years ago but they can't have changed much since they currently have some good feedback on tripadvisor.com.

www.tripadvisor.com is good for recommendations and reviews.

UnifoxO's, I've only stayed at the Radisson in Bratislava, nice place but not cheap. Slovakia will adopt the Euro as it's national currency on the 1st January 2009 so when you arrve you'll be using Euros.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza - I don't recall it being particularly expensive, probably relative to the cost of everything else in Bratislava. Great location though, between the Old Town and the New Town. 5 mins walk max. to the bars and restaurants of the Old Town but far enough to be away from any noise.
