Dubai - expat networking

Hi guys, I've a mate in the construction industry who is heading to Dubai for a few days, hoping to link up with other ex-pats in the same field.

Any pointers on what area would be best to base himself? where are the best ex-pat haunts?

Thanks

Regal Plaza Hotel in Bur Dubai is always good. The sports bar downstairs is the place to be when the premiership season kicks off. There are a few construction guys I know there as well as a mix of others, from property to lawyers and restaurant owners. The club upstairs is a different story altogether. Stay away unless you wish to improve your Russian and spend lots of money in the process. I don't think the girls are into construction but they do know how to get things erected quickly!
